Seems The Ryan Poles-Kevin Warren Partnership Is On Shaky Ground

-

Ryan Poles and Kevin Warren vowed they would work together to turn around the Chicago Bears despite how they came together. Poles was hired as GM in 2022, where he was promised a direct line of communication to ownership. However, that changed when Warren was hired as team president, creating an obstacle to that line. Even so, nothing seemed amiss even after the team fired head coach Matt Eberflus last month. Warren insisted Poles would remain the GM and lead the search for a replacement.

However, some felt the air had changed. Poles looked defeated at the most recent press conference. Warren seemed like somebody who’d seized control and planned to keep it that way. It has led to constant speculation about whether this partnership was destined for separation. To know for sure, two pieces of information are necessary. First is Poles’ job security. Jeff Hughes of Da Bears Blog confirmed widespread speculation that the Bears GM is far from safe, especially if the team’s desired coach is wary of working with him.

Hughes further confirmed the other piece of the puzzle. Despite what he may say publicly, Warren is throwing his weight around more than ever before.

Ryan Poles could’ve avoided this mess.

If he’d managed to hire the right coach and put together a competitive roster, he likely would’ve had enough sway to avoid Warren’s power play. Unfortunately, his willingness to not only hire Eberflus but then double down on him this past off-season sealed his fate. While he may still have the support of George McCaskey and others inside Halas Hall, the goodwill he had with fans and the media has all but evaporated. Most want him gone due to the coaching fiasco and his negligence in the trenches.

Everything seems to hinge on the coaching search. At some point, a coach will emerge from the field as the guy Warren feels the organization has to have, be it Ben Johnson or somebody else. If said coach expresses reluctance about working with Ryan Poles, we have confirmation that the organization will move on from him. He must do everything in his power to sell himself as much as the organization for the next month.

BDT. Jarron Gilbert is the guy you’re talking about. He played 4 games for us. I always thought never draft a guy that spends that much time at the pool.

@Tred. @Sam I always liked Caleb but also liked Fields. I always thought ALL (at least 90%)of Fields problems were the coaching. I hate being proven right because it means that everyone has to go through the agony, but much of my life I’ve had to watch companies, countries, economies, teams and individuals fail because of stubbornness and ego. Obviously, I have an ego as well, but admitting mistakes quickly and either fixing them and compounding them is not something I ever wanted for myself. When you draft a player, or free agent, that person is either teachable and intelligent… Read more »

Anyone can accidentally hire the right or wrong coach. If you know what you are looking for, it ceases being and accident and the “right” part becomes more probable.
The problem is not know when you are wrong and not correcting yourself.
When you are steering the Titanic, you have a responsibility to be governed by intelligence and awareness instead of ego and stupidity and insistence you are right.
I would venture to say that every one with half a brain knows what I’m talking about. I may be an asshole in being it up, but I’m right.

@Sam – what’s funny is you wanted Caleb, and I didn’t. And I’ll admit, I like the kid far more than I ever thought I would. But we BOTH think Ryan Poles has hung this poor kid out to dry. I wonder what it will take for Pole’s fan club to see it? I hope it doesn’t take a serious injury to the kid before people understand Poles method of building the OL don’t work. And to add – Poles had a ton of resources. People forget Roquan, Quinn coming off an 18.5 sack season ( no one told Poles… Read more »

Tred.. I agree with literally everything you said sir! 💯 💯 Most of all, um sick of hearing about how Poles took over a bad roster and has had limited resources to upgrade the team. Ppl act like pretty much EVERY new GM isn’t walking into a rough roster situation. Thats why there’s a new GM coming in, in the 1st place. But it’s been 3 fk’n seasons and the team is,l no better. And saying he’s had limited resources is just plain bullshit. He has had plenty of resources, he just chose the wrong players. That’s what poor talent… Read more »
