Ryan Poles’ Seat Is Reportedly Warmer Than Bears Are Letting On

-

Kevin Warren insisted firing head coach Matt Eberflus was the only major decision the Chicago Bears would make going into the off-season. GM Ryan Poles was safe and would lead the charge on finding the next head coach. Most fans were okay with that, though some had reservations about letting a general manager who whiffed so badly last time get another crack. However, the tone shifted dramatically after Sunday’s game in San Francisco. Even with Eberflus, the supposed source of all their problems, out of the picture, the team was thoroughly smacked around 38-13.

This happened despite four of the 49ers’ five best players being out with injuries, which was an indictment on the roster. Bears players looked befuddled and too often disinterested. Many fans on social media began directing their outrage at Poles, who built this thing from the ground up. The team is no closer to contention than it was three years ago. Forget the head coach. This organization may need a completely fresh start across the board. Some don’t think the Bears will entertain the idea.

That might not necessarily be true.

Ryan Poles is closer to the edge than many think.

A source informed SM that the vibe inside Halas Hall is tense. There is a feeling that more is riding on next week’s game in Minnesota than many are letting on. Remember, Warren spent over a decade with that organization and helped build their stadium. Getting humiliated on prime-time television against his former team may compel the team president to reevaluate the decision to keep Poles. Don’t forget that he wasn’t around when the GM was hired. While they may have a solid working relationship, there is no reason to maintain it if the team is trending in the wrong direction.

Nothing is set in stone. Ryan Poles won’t be fired because of the loss in San Francisco. It comes down to how the team finishes out the string. If they’re crushed multiple times over the final month, it will be an indictment on the roster he put together. In such an event, Warren will consider wiping the slate clean with a new GM and new head coach. It may not be what the McCaskey wanted, but the reality is their hand-picked guy hasn’t gotten the job done.

Some perspective. Peyton Manning went 3-13 in his rookie season. Caleb has already guaranteed that he will have a better percentage record than that. Am I guaranteeing that Caleb will be as good as Manning? No, but he has the talent to reach that level. John Dorsey was the GM when the Chiefs drafted Mahomes. They fired him within a year, and hired Brett Veach as the new GM. It’s pretty clear that the most impactful draft pick the Chiefs have made in the last 15 years was to draft Mahomes. That’s why when you have a shot at a… Read more »

Justin Fields…. hahahahaha!!! His numbers might not look that bad on paper but then look at his 4th quarter stats and see how you like him. If you’re trailing going into the 4th quarter him at QB, don’t expect to win the game. Why do you think Mike Tomlin benched him for no apparent reason? Tomlin isn’t stupid. He knows what Fields can give you and he knows it’s not enough.

I can’t stand Poles and I can’t believe he still has a job. Look at all the draft picks he’s had, the free agents he was allowed to sign and where are we? Most likely 4-13 and that’s with Caleb Williams done very well. I could understand our current record if CW was struggling, but as far am I’m concerned he’s been as good as I dared hope. The team’s struggles and their record is all on Poles. The offensive line is a joke and that’s AFTER we got lucky and found Matt Pryor on the scrap heap. If it… Read more »

I don’t know how to help you people. I specifically say it doesn’t matter if it was Fields, just so happens he was already on the roster and was serviceable with the right play calling and a line that didn’t have more holes than a truckstop bathroom stall. Your response to that shouldn’t be “see, you love him too”. We did not have resources to fix the line and use that pick on a QB. You want proof? Look at the record.
