Caleb Williams encountered the exact situation many Chicago Bears fans feared when he first arrived. Matt Eberflus wasn’t equipped to develop him properly, firing his hand-picked offensive coordinator after just nine games and failing to find solutions to the protection issues. Around the time things started spiraling, Williams’ father, Carl Williams, made waves by retweeting a video of a Washington Commanders coach taking accountability for his mistakes despite the big Hail Mary win over Chicago. Many felt it was a direct shot at Eberflus, who ducked any responsibility.
Williams later insisted the retweet had nothing to do with the Bears head coach, but nobody believed him. Well, Caleb’s old man was up to his old tricks again over the past two weeks. He had not one but two notable retweets on Twitter (X) that seem to send another not-so-subtle message to the organization.
Caleb Williams’ dad seems clear on his desires.
He wants the Bears to follow the Kansas City model, that is, hire a prominent offensive coach they can pair with his son in hopes of maximizing his development as a quarterback. It is a model that has worked quite well over the past decade. Kansas City, Cincinnati, Denver, Dallas, Philadelphia, Green Bay, and San Francisco have all reaped the benefits of this approach. The Bears tried it with Matt Nagy a few years ago, but it was clear he didn’t have the offensive mastery or the right quarterback to make it work.
The good news is Caleb Williams looks like a significant upgrade over Mitch Trubisky. Finding that coach who can succeed where Nagy failed is the final step. Mr. Williams is justified in this feeling. There is no shortage of qualified candidates, headlined by Detroit’s Ben Johnson, Buffalo’s Joe Brady, and Washington’s Kliff Kingsbury. No doubt Caleb’s father is hoping the Bears use common sense for once.

(-19 and climbing): That’s the way I like it. Give me more. The more negatives the better because I would not care to think as you do. If common or normal, then such would make me mediocre or average at best. Thanks for reading and voting!
I just survived almost 2 hours of a major storm on the Isle of Man outside. I can survive you, especially on a Saturday night. Just don’t get in the way of my dart targets. It’s pub time!
No I stayed on the fence with Fields since I could see it both ways! I do want him to do well though with the Steelers. No I did not vote for Harris, she was not even a decent VP. And, I have coached and worked with players and their dominant parents from the grade school into the pro level (4 NFL players). Those parents always remained a factor to some degree and at some level, but each case is admittedly different. We are not talking about waves and particles here, but a complexity of social relationships over time, space,… Read more »
Well, I accomplished my short-run goal (i.e., -15) and want to thank all the little people who made it possible. As you dumbos and simpletons say and understand, “have a nice day.”
Both QB dads need to shut up & mind their business. Ever heard of Bring a Parent to Work Day? No, because what adult at any job wants his dad butting in their career? Hush.
The last thing we need is a helicopter parent involved.
