The 2024 season for the Chicago White Sox was one of the worst in modern day baseball history. They were 41-121 and the worst team in the league by far. The bright spots were few and far between, as the team was very hard to watch for many White Sox fans.
However, down on the farm, the White Sox have some very intriguing players that can give fans a glimmer of hope for the future. We will be recapping the season of some of the best prospects in the White Sox system, starting from #30 and going in order to #1 as MLB Pipeline has them ranked. As you’ll see, there are some very intriguing prospects that can help bring the White Sox back to relevance.
Ranked at number 30 in the White Sox farm system is Javier Mogollon. Mogollon may not be a household name quite yet, but White Sox fans should be aware of him, as he will likely shoot up rat farm system rankings over the next year or so.
Mogollon is an 18 year old shortstop that the White Sox signed out of Venezuela for just $75,000 last January. He would go on to join the Dominican Complex league White Sox affiliate and would play extremely well. In 47 games, he would hit .315 with 10 homeruns and 42 RBIs. He added 11 stolen bases and struck out 28 times while walking 27. This was a fantastic debut for Mogollon in the White Sox organization.
However, Mogollon has yet to play in the minor leagues, as he has only played in the Arizona Complex league and the Dominican Summer league. It is likely that at some point in the 2025 season Mogollon will make his way to Low-A Kannapolis to make his affiliated minor league debut.
In 2024 at the Arizona Complex league, Mogollon played in 46 games. In 143 at-bats, he hit .259 with a phenomenal .406 OBP and slugged .506. He added eight homeruns, 29 RBIs, and 16 stolen bases. At this point he has five tool potential, as he does everything on the field well.
Mogollon did strike out 69 times compared to just 33 walks, so that is something he will have to work on. But, he is just 18 years old so that is extremely common for a young hitter who hasn’t even made his way to low-A.
Mogollon likely has one of the highest ceilings in the minor leagues, as he has had success at such a young age. If he gets promoted to Kannapolis next year, he will likely be one of the youngest players in the league, giving the White Sox another chance at finding a star player for the future.
2025 will be a big season for Mogollon, as he can start to gain national prospect recognition if he plays well as a 19 year old in the low minors.
