The Chicago Bears’ confidence in guard Nate Davis has reached an all-time low during the first six weeks of the 2024 season. After a rough start, the Bears benched Davis at right guard in favor of veteran Matt Pryor for Week 3’s matchup against the Indianapolis Colts. By Week 6, the team made Bill Murray active instead of Davis all but signaling the end to the Nate Davis era in Chicago. This situation is far from what Bears GM Ryan Poles had hoped for when they signed Davis to a three-year deal worth up to $30 million in 2023.
Despite his struggles, there are rumors that a few teams may still be interested in acquiring Davis. Offensive linemen rarely become available near the trade deadline, which makes his potential availability notable. In fact, Bleacher Report’s Scouting Department recently suggested that the Colts should consider trading for Davis, as they need a replacement for starting right guard Will Fries, who was placed on injured reserve after undergoing tibia surgery on October 7.
“Elsewhere, Nate Davis was just benched in Chicago. The Bears might be willing to part with the veteran after he failed to live up to his contract. It’s not the most ideal scenario for the Colts, but Davis is at least an experienced veteran with a decent baseline of production.”
Nate Davis still has the potential to contribute value to a team.
In 142 blocking snaps, Nate Davis has allowed just 1 sack and 6 total pressures, and has committed 3 penalties this season. Despite this, he boasts an impressive 95.7 Pass Blocking Efficiency, a PFF stat that measures pressure allowed per snap, with more weight given to sacks. However, stats alone don’t tell the full story. The film paints a different picture, showing the Bears’ offensive line improving in all areas—communication and overall performance—since Davis was benched.
Still, with many teams likely looking to add depth to their offensive line, the Bears might consider trading Davis to clear some cap space, potentially receiving a player or a late-round pick in return. Bears GM Ryan Poles has proven willing to make moves at the trade deadline in the past, and he’s likely already exploring potential additions. Nate Davis is definitely a player to watch as the deadline approaches.

Hey we can sweeten the pot a little….we can throw in gena and sally
Nate Davis. The only topic so toxic that all Bear fans are united in their dismay.
OG, Nate “Where’s Waldo?” Davis is merely a symptom.
Offensive Run Game Coordinator / Offensive Line coach, Chris “C-Mo” Morgan and General Manager, Ryan Poles are the actual disease.
Could Assistant General Manager, Ian Cunningham possibly, be the cure?
Well, I have said it before, but this time I really mean it: perhaps Davis is just misunderstood. And don’t forget his mother died not long ago. You can never replace your mother with all the money in the world, not with just $30m. But it is time for him to move forward with his life and seek wellness for himself and his remaining family members for mutual support. As Bears fans, we are obligated to demonstrate compassion for a Bears warrior who did not stay long enough. We will miss him.
It’s possible that Nate Davis is a pretty good guard who just doesn’t fit here in Chicago, for whatever weird reason. If Poles can get some value trading him, great, do it. Any team taking on his contract will know that he will go into the last year of it next year, and may be motivated to play well to get a big next contract. I remember at the end of last season how people were saying that Lucas Patrick was washed and wherever he signed would regret it. He’s playing very well for the Saints, one of PFFs top… Read more »
