The Chicago Bears took care of business in London on Sunday. After falling behind 3-0 in the first quarter, they reeled off 21 straight points to seize control of the game and never looked back. Their 35-16 demolition of the Jacksonville Jaguars sent them into the bye week at 4-2, their best start since 2018. Few players had more fun in this game than Keenan Allen, who caught not one but two touchdowns. He also had a huge 4th down conversion to help salt away the clock in the final minutes.
However, his best moment came after his first touchdown catch. Not only was it a gorgeous back-shoulder snag, but Allen then proceeded to lead his teammates in one of the year’s best celebrations. They all sat in a circle in the end zone and had themselves a tea party. It was the perfect tribute to their host country, widely considered the one that helped make tea one of the world’s most popular beverages. It is honestly surprising no one thought to do this celebration before.
Keenan Allen finally looked like who the Bears traded for.
The star wide receiver has battled a heel injury since training camp. It forced him to miss two games last month and he didn’t quite look like himself upon returning. That changed on Sunday. Jacksonville had no answers for his sharp route running and body control. Anytime the Bears needed a conversion on 3rd or 4th down, he was the one they looked to. Per usual, Keenan Allen delivered every time. This is why the Bears offense has a chance to be scary. Cole Kmet also had two touchdowns in the game. D.J. Moore would’ve had another had Caleb Williams not underthrown him. Chicago did pretty much whatever they wanted all day. That is not something people have said about a Bears offense in years past.
@David Caleb should have had a TD to DJ on his INT because he floated it when he should have gunned it. Moore was wide open. A sure 6 that Caleb regretted the moment he threw it up for grabs.
But the important thing is he learned from it and we won.
I seem to recall a revolution that started with a tea party. So it could also be viewed as a slap in the face to the redcoats. Interesting that the Patriots will be there next week.
Caleb also would have had a 5th TD on that shovel pass to DJ that was initially called a TD, but was brought back at the 1 foot yard line after reviewing the play.
It was a nice and respectful cross-cultural moment of the game that even the unaware and uneducated might appreciate.
