Jaguars Catch Massive Break Before Bears Game

-

The Bears have been dealing with injuries throughout the week, and the injury report just worsened. Cornerback Tyrique Stevenson is doubtful for Sunday’s game after injuring his calf during a drill in Thursday’s practice, according to head coach Matt Eberflus. With fellow cornerback Terell Smith not traveling, Jaylon Jones is expected to replace Stevenson. Eberflus mentioned that, like Elijah Hicks, Jones has been in the Bears system for several years, which gives the team confidence if he steps in. Another possible option is cornerback Josh Blackwell.

The Bears defense will be tested.

The Jaguars are coming off their first win of the season, scoring 37 points against the Colts. Quarterback Trevor Lawrence had his best performance yet, completing 28 of 34 passes for 371 yards, 2 touchdowns, and 1 interception, finishing with a 119.5 passer rating.

Looking ahead to Sunday’s game, the Jaguars catch a massive break with the Bears secondary missing key players. Cornerback Tyrique Stevenson and safety Jaquan Brisker are both likely out. Stevenson has been targeted 35 times this season, allowing 18 receptions for 235 yards, 1 touchdown, and has recorded 1 interception and 4 pass breakups. His passer rating when targeted is 70.5, and he has 3 penalties this season.

Stevenson’s replacement, Jaylon Jones, has only played 10 snaps, with 9 in coverage. He has 2 pass breakups and a 39.6 passer rating when targeted. He’ll need to step up as the Jaguars offense seems to be gaining momentum after their big performance against Indianapolis.
