The regular season might be over but Garrett Crochet is still receiving recognition. The White Sox lone All-Star was one of 26 players to be named an All-MLB starting pitcher nominee.
The list has several former White Sox hurlers including Dylan Cease, Reynaldo Lopez, and Chris Sale. Crochet was one of the few White Sox on a 2024 White Sox squad that only managed 41 wins on the season. Crochet went 6-12 with a 3.58 ERA and a 4.1 WAR. His 35.1 percent strikeout rate ranked in the top two percent of all MLB pitchers, while his 205 strikeouts ranked seventh in the MLB. Crochet led the MLB in strikeouts at the end of June, but an inning restriction from the White Sox limited him to just four innings or less in every start after June 30th.
Crochet’s numbers could have been even better if not for the shotty defense and limited run support he received all season. His 2.83 expected ERA placed him inside baseball’s top ten percent of pitchers. His 5.5 percent walk rate, .206 opponent expected batting average, and 97.2 mph average fastball velocity placed him well above league average. Crochet also led the White Sox in strikeouts and games started.
