The Chicago Bears traded for Keenan Allen in March, believing he would be a huge help in the development of Caleb Williams. Thus far, the six-time Pro Bowler hasn’t lived up to that billing. Much of this comes from a heel injury that has bothered him since training camp. As a result, he missed the games against Houston and Indianapolis. He returned on Sunday against the Los Angeles Rams, catching three passes for 19 yards. Things haven’t clicked yet, but the Bears seem content to let him find his footing.
Or maybe not. Peter Schrager of NFL Network is one of the more well-connected insiders around the league. The Kansas City Chiefs have now lost their top two wide receivers, Rashee Rice and Hollywood Brown, to season-ending injuries. This threatens to leave star quarterback Patrick Mahomes bereft of weapons. That is why the expectation is that Kansas City will scour the trade market for help. Schrager listed some names who could be available over the next five weeks.
Allen was on it.
A Keenan Allen trade isn’t likely.
However, the logic behind the idea is sound. A week ago, the Bears showed that they could get the passing game going just fine without him. Williams threw for 363 yards against the Colts, with D.J. Moore, Cole Kmet, and Rome Odunze all making big contributions. If the Bears sense Allen isn’t clicking as they hoped in this offense, trading him while his perceived value is still high would make sense. While they may not get back the 4th round pick they gave up for him, they could secure something for next year.

It isn’t like Keenan Allen would oppose such an idea. Getting a chance to play with Mahomes would obviously appeal to him. He had to watch the Chiefs superstar win the division every year and three of the last five Super Bowls. Getting a chance at a ring would be a no-brainer from his perspective. No decision has to be made for another month. Maybe Kansas City will figure something else out. If they don’t? This could be something to watch as the deadline draws near.
There was this orgasmic party with Bears fans when Poles traded for Keenan Allen, I cautioned against the celebration. 32 year old WR don’t thrive in the NFL. It’s the complete opposite. If WR’s go to Chicago to die, then 32 year old WR are probably dead before they arrive. That’s been the case so far
So if he can flip him to anyone for anything, it would be a good move. This won’t play out like people though it would.
Trading Allen makes zero sense. He’s gonna be hurt again at some point, Moore might miss a few games, and Odunze almost missed a game. Let’s cover that possibility.
At the end of the season, either Allen resigns, or the Bears have a good chance of getting a decent comp pick if he walks. If the Chiefs really need a WR/playmaker, how about sending them Velus for a 4th? (JK, won’t happen.)
Ironically, I’ve been told I look like Shaggy.
Actually I look more like Moe except my beautiful blackish hair is so much longer and parted down the middle. I was hoping for Scooby to play Curley. Remember there were 5 Stooges and almost a 6th.
One of my top 10 bands of all time was from Ann Arbor/Detroit, Iggy Pop and the Stooges.
How about Flus as Moe, Shane as Larry, and Morgan as Curley? Poles as the Candyman?
I like the value Allen brings to the WR room. Even if not value in production, he has good value in working with/teaching Rome. And if we are talking about getting less than a 4th rounder, is it worth it, considering we’d probly get a 4th-5th round compensatory pick when he leaves next year anyways? Can we trade Poles instead? 😁
