Rome Odunze Injury Update Brings Sorely-Needed Relief

-

Matt Eberflus dropped a bombshell at his first presser of the week when he revealed Rome Odunze, the Chicago Bears’ prized 9th overall pick, was getting an MRI on his knee. Footage from the game showed fellow receiver Velus Jones and a Tennessee Titans defender slamming into the back of Odunze’s legs during a play. The rookie left the game shortly after that. Eberflus couldn’t offer any details, stating he’d know more by Wednesday. This naturally left Bears fans in a state of shock and nerves.

Mercifully, an update didn’t take long to surface. According to Adam Schefter, Odunze suffered what is believed to be an MCL sprain and is considered week-to-week. Jordan Schultz added that it is a Grade 1 sprain. If true, that means the recovery time should be somewhere between one to three weeks.

Rome Odunze is likely seeking a way to play.

His seeking of a second opinion is interesting. Normally, that isn’t done unless the injury is considered season-ending. This obviously isn’t. Knowing how competitive the young receiver is, the safe assumption is the Bears are likely leaning toward sitting him for a week or two until the pain subsides. Rome Odunze is hoping a second opinion might give him options to convince the team he can go. Of course, this is all speculation. The bottom line is he didn’t suffer anything catastrophic. History says the Bears will probably sit him for at least a week. Matt Eberflus is known for being cautious with player health. Besides, they still have D.J. Moore and Keenan Allen. The passing game should survive until Odunze can return.
