Even though Justin Fields is now with the Pittsburgh Steelers, it’s worth keeping an eye on him. If Fields plays in at least 51% of the snaps in 2024, the Bears will receive a 4th-round pick instead of a 6th in the 2025 NFL draft. Upon joining the Steelers, Fields was immediately listed as the backup to Russell Wilson. However, with Wilson sidelined due to a calf injury during training camp, Fields has excelled in practice. Steelers Head Coach Mike Tomlin had not officially acknowledged a competition for the quarterback position until early Wednesday morning during his press conference, where he effectively confirmed that it is indeed a real competition between Fields and Wilson.
In the end, I’ll be rooting for Justin Fields to succeed. If he does well, it will also benefit the Bears. This week will be particularly interesting as Fields will be starting against the Texans, since Russell Wilson is out of the first preseason game due to his calf injury. A big performance from Fields might just be the nail in the coffin for Wilson’s hope to remain the starter.
No Poles is focused on his number 1 overall pick. He’s not focused on Barry’s cousins that will bring us a solid 6th round pick
First it was getting help from Lovie, now from Fields? But . . . this is still a pre-season game.
Goff is a seasoned vet now that can make all the throws. Love is only going to get better as he physically matures. Darnold might have the strongest arm in the division and I’m curious to see what he can do if the game has slowed down for him after working with Shanny. Addison really set his team back. I hope Odunze rides a Vespa.
In the meantime, no one asks – Is Ryan Poles actually rooting for Fields to bring in that 4th round pick?
Because if that happens it not only means he gave the Steelers a starting QB for a 4th rounder, it invites a direct comparison between not only Fields and Caleb Williams, but also the regimes of Khan and himself…
Who knows what those comparisons might look like?
@Rocketrider Nope, I am the most downvoted commenter on here. It’s not even close, really. And before I was the goat of Sports Mockery downvotes, my scorching takes forced the folks at Bear Goggles On to straight-up remove the comments function there.
Give me my crown.
