Blackhawks Grab High-Upside Forward With No. 18 Pick

-

Two hours after the Blackhawks altered the course of the rebuild by selecting defenseman Artyom Levshunov at No. 2 overall, GM Kyle Davidson took the stage and once again added a huge piece to his new-look pipeline by selecting Canadian forward Sacha Boisvert at No. 18.

Boisvert, who was ranked by every recognized list in the top 30 picks overall, is a proven goalscorer who put up 36 goals in 61 games in the USHL last season. At 18 years old, he plans to head to the University of North Dakota this fall, but hopefully won’t spend too much time there before coming to Chicago.

With a great, unique wrist shot and a powerful one-timer as well as strong skills in front of the net, Boisvert is set to score plenty of goals at the next level. But he’s more than just a pure scorer – his great size and high hockey IQ make him a high-upside prospect with skills that will translate to the NHL. Better yet, he’s proven his skills as a passer and makes plenty of creative plays to set up his teammates.

“It means the world being drafted by the Blackhawks. I couldn’t imagine a better scenario, and I’m really excited and ready to get going.”

– Sacha Boisvert

As a proven scorer and producer at every level he’s played so far, the forward possesses tremendous upside, representing a new elite prospect in the Blackhawks’ system. Chicago’s pipeline at center continues to look more promising, with players like Connor Bedard, Frank Nazar, and now Boisvert filling out the Blackhawks’ future roster.
