Chicago Bears Linked To Dynamic Veteran Wide Receiver

-

There’s been speculation that the Chicago Bears might use their 9th overall pick to draft a wide receiver. While this is a strong possibility, it’s also possible that the top three wide receivers could be drafted before the Bears are back on the clock at number 9. The Bears have done well in adding more talent to complement their star wide receiver, DJ Moore. The acquisition of Keenan Allen has significantly improved their receiving corps. However, there is a lack of depth at the position, and the Bears need to address this. An injury to either Moore or Allen could pose challenges for the offense next season. With some cap space still available, the Bears might be looking to sign a veteran receiver, possibly waiting for roster cuts to make a move. Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox has suggested that the Bears could be interested in Darius Slayton if the New York Giants decide to part ways with him later in the season.

“Slayton wouldn’t be a top target in almost any other offensive lineup. However, he’d be a fine complementary option for a team that lacks overall depth at the position like the Chicago Bears.

Would this move make sense for the Bears?

If the Giants decide to part ways with Darius Slayton, it could align well with Ryan Poles off-season plans. Slayton has recorded over 700 receiving yards in four of his five NFL seasons. While he may not be a superstar, he would be a valuable addition to the Bears receiving room. The Bears could still consider drafting a receiver with the ninth pick, especially if big time names like Malik Nabers or Rome Odunze are still on the board at 9.

By capitalizing on roster cuts, the Bears could potentially acquire a veteran like Slayton. Imagine a receiving core featuring DJ Moore, Keenan Allen, Rome Odunze, Darius Slayton, and Tyler Scott. This would provide Caleb Williams with even more weapons, not to mention the added talent in the running back and tight end rooms. Slayton is a player definitely worth keeping an eye on, especially after the NFL draft.

The randomness of this article exceeds even the mockery’s standards. A fringe wr that could get cut later in the season? Wow.

Why make an article about a guy who is currently under contract and on a team without any established wide receivers lol?

We’re not taking a WR early. Slayton would be a tertiary WR. We just need a consistent vertical threat.
With the run on QBs early pushing WR down the board, it’s too much last value taking one of the top 3 WRs at #9 when there are so many good WRs later in the draft.

Dar-I-us: Nothing wrong with possessing six great, good, or average NFL WRs who can all catch the ball and do different things.

Sure, if he’s a cut candidate. But there are plenty of other NFL teams that have bigger needs at WR, which would mean more catches for Slayton in those offenses. If it comes to this, I think there’s a small chance Slayton chooses the Bears, especially if the Bears draft Odunze.
