Dez Bryant was a great wide receiver for most of the 2010s. However, his relevance has vanished in recent years. That hasn’t stopped the Dallas Cowboys legend from throwing his opinion around lately. Most of them have centered on the Chicago Bears. He’s made it known that he doesn’t want USC star quarterback Caleb Williams going to them because of their long history of dysfunction when it comes to developing that position. Hardly an original take. However, he took it a step further with a mini rant on Twitter (X).
Cornerback Jaylon Johnson made it known that Williams won’t be allowed to become a distraction in the Bears locker room if he’s drafted next month. There won’t be any of that “Hollywood stuff,” as he put it. Veterans like himself, Tremaine Edmunds, Montez Sweat, and others won’t accommodate a rookie who thinks he’s above the team, even if he is the quarterback. Bryant was put off by those comments, likely because he was notorious during his career for not adhering to locker room culture.
He even thinks the Bears should consider trading Johnson if he enacts such a policy on Williams.
Dez Bryant needs to stay away from such advice.
This is the same guy who endorsed Kanye West for president. Everything he’s done outside of catching a football hasn’t gone his way over the years. Even during his career, he was part of several teams that choked in big moments. He was handed a terrific situation in Dallas for a decade and did nothing with it. So maybe his thoughts on how to build a champion don’t hold much weight. The Bears have done everything in their power to ensure Williams can have success right out of the gate.
Shane Waldron arrived to coordinate the offense. D.J. Moore, Keenan Allen, and Cole Kmet make up a formidable receiving trio. The offensive line is stable at all five positions. They have a deep and diverse running back group. Even the defense will be able to hold its own under Matt Eberflus’ firm direction. If Dez Bryant wants to show everybody how to run a locker room, he should buy his own team. Maybe a little accountability might’ve helped his teams accomplish more in his career.
I think it’s funny when I read articles stating, “Former NFL superstar urges CW to pull an Eli Manning and not play for the Bears if drafted by them.” Then it turns out to be RGIII. Superstar? Are you shitting me? What a pile.
@spank73, May as well hand Michael Irvin the mic, too.
Remember when these guys just used to play the game and not need constant 24/7 attention? Me neither.
Feel better now Dez? Please sit down. Thank you.
Dez is short for Desmond, that’s also what’s called a nickname.
