Chicago Bears fans always seem to take hits from the national media. It’s been this way since Saturday Night Live debuted the iconic Bill Swerski’s Superfans back in the 1980s. Since then, people have always thought Bears fans are nothing but a bunch of overweight alcoholics who think their team is capable of god-like feats. Meanwhile, their historic rival, the Green Bay Packers, has escaped such criticism for years. This is despite their own fans being just as insufferable. It appears one person decided to level the playing field. That was Shane Gillis.
A stand up comedian of widespread popularity, he has become a viral sensation over the past few years. He also briefly had a stint as a cast member on SNL before he was fired for an unfortunate podcast incident where he was accused of being racist towards Asian people. While the initial controversy looked bad, it was later shown the quotes were taken out of context. It didn’t seem to impact his career. This past weekend, he used his newfound popularity to score a spot as SNL’s host.
One of the highlights of the evening was when he portrayed Packers fans as sexually depraved deviants with some creative kinks.

Growing up as a comic, he cited Bill Burr, Norm MacDonald, and Dave Chappelle as some of his biggest influences. One common trait among those comedy legends was their willingness to touch any subject, no matter how controversial. Not many people would’ve thought a Green Bay Packers butt plug sketch could sell to a national audience. This one certainly did. The ending sequence with the fight song was easily one of the biggest highlights of the entire show.

After escaping criticism for so long, it was awesome to see Packers fans catch some strays from the national media for once. After being spoiled for so many years, it’s only fair. Shane Gillis also gave Bears fans some new ammunition in the ceaseless war of words between the two sides. Now every time the Swerski skits are brought up, they can fire back about the Green Bay Packers butt plug, complete with pre-installed fight song that amplifies when you open your mouth.
