There’s significant buzz about the Chicago Bears current quarterback, Justin Fields, and it’s completely warranted. The Bears will likely dominate discussions leading up to the draft and during free agency until they make a decision about arguably the most crucial position in football. Recently, Doug Kyed, a New England Patriots beat reporter for the Boston Herald, addressed a question about Fields in a mailbag article. One question specifically asked about the Patriots involvement in discussions regarding a possible trade for Fields. Here’s what Doug revealed.
I’ve been told not to rule out anything at quarterback. If the Patriots would rather take an offensive lineman, wide receiver or a player at another position at No. 3 overall (or trade down), then making a deal with the Bears for Justin Fields seemingly would be an option.
What could the Bears get from New England for Justin Fields?
Here’s how things could get interesting: The Patriots could strike an interesting deal with Chicago. In this scenario, they’d give up their No. 3 pick in the 2024 NFL Draft to acquire quarterback Justin Fields from the Bears but also swap first round picks sending No. 9 to New England.
To sweeten the deal, Chicago could toss in a day three pick if necessary. This deal would see the Bears moving up 6 spots while the Patriots secure their quarterback and maintain a pick in the top 10. This move could allow Chicago to snag Caleb Williams and possibly Marvin Harrison Jr. However, New England might prefer to hold onto their top 3 pick. In that case, offering a couple of second-round picks and a day three pick could still seal the deal with Chicago. The value of Justin Fields in the trade market seems to vary, with some suggesting he’s worth a premium pick. And it’s not just New England interested in Fields; there are likely a couple more teams eager to engage in trade discussions for him. Free agency is right around the corner so things should start to really heat up.

Forget about trading Fields to New England. What I thought might really be a coup would be to trade down from 1 to 2 with Washington and get a boatload of draft picks. After that, trade down from 2 to 3 with New England and get more draft picks. Finally, draft Jayden Daniels 3rd. Caleb Williams is a bit scary to me. He reminds me too much of Justin Fields. Sure, he can do great things with his legs, but how good of a QB is he? Daniels QBR is much higher than Williams. The QB position is about throwing,… Read more »
Mr. Poles, if you desire to select and also satisfy Williams (and Bear fans), then try to trade Fields and #9 to NE for #3 so to acquire Harrison.
I do not believe that Poles would trade Fields within the division. So that leaves the Vikings out. Atlanta may very well try to jump up to #4 (Arizona’s selection) to take a QB. And it’s also unlikely that Pittsburgh would give up #20 for Fields. The Raider with Getsy as OC seems a very unlikely landing spot for him, but one never knows what Mark Davis is thinking.. Although NE is a possibility I would not do this trade. I would however trade them Fields for picks in rounds 2, 4, and 6 of this year’s draft. As to… Read more »
#1 priority for Poles is his job security? Fock that. That’s a weak take. I seriously doubt that he is worried about his job. Dude just wants to win like everyone else in the league.
If Poles were to trade Justin, I don’t think he is worried about his success costing his job. He will trade to the highest bid, outside maybe the Vikings.
