Latest Justin Fields Report Could Force The Chicago Bears Hand

-

In the most recent episode of his podcast, “RG3 and The Ones,” former Washington Commanders quarterback Robert Griffin III had former Chicago Bears wide receiver Brandon Marshall on the show. During the conversation, Griffin discussed the current quarterback situation of the Chicago Bears and specifically asked Marshall whether the team should keep Justin Fields. Marshall’s response was quite fascinating, and he followed it up with a question of his own.

“You think Justin Fields should keep the Chicago Bears?”

Marshall posed an intriguing question about Justin Fields possible desire for a new beginning. It is fair for Fields to doubt if the Bears can coach and develop him further, given the challenges he has faced in his initial three seasons in Chicago. RG3 supported Marshall’s stance, confirming that there could be individuals within Justin Fields’ circle who might desire a fresh start during this off-season.

“I agree with you. There is a little bit of Justin Fields camp that might not want to be in Chicago.”

The Bears QB decision might be pretty straightforward

If RG3’s statement holds any truth, the Bears are left with no option but to trade Fields to the highest bidder in the off-season. They must then take another chance on a rookie quarterback, crossing their fingers that they finally get it right.

However, the franchise’s history suggests that hitting the jackpot in this scenario is highly unlikely.

Don’t know if anything in football is simple with 22 moving parts. I would love to ask members of this years OL how simple it is.

TGena, I’d bet if you told any NFL player that it’s “simple” they’d be insulted. I’m also not going to pick one play to try to prove a point to win an irrelevant debate with someone here. I watch a lot of football games. I know how it works. My point, as it has been since this whole Fields versus the #1 pick deal began, is that it IS a team sport, and no one player is to blame.

@spank73 — It’s all simple — but none of it is “easy.” Quarterback is the hardest position in sports — and the QBs all get the lion’s share of the praise, as well as the blame. QBs typically, don’t improve when their WRs run undisciplined routes; or when their OL coach accepts poor line play (miscommunication and dumb penalties). Football is still a team sport. A QB also doesn’t improve within a system, in which the coaches stress on-time, on-target passes — UNLESS the QB (the only person on the field that throws a pass) simply (again, it’s not always… Read more »

TGena,
Not quite that simple. Mahomes also has a consistent Oline, and receivers that have the ability to improvise when needed and make catches that are behind them, way out in front or at their feet. I’m not saying Fields is an AllPro and I’m not a “cultist” but it’s stupid the way he takes all or most of the blame. Nothing about this game is simple.

A QB (such as Patrick Mahomes) that doesn’t panic in the pocket, but evades the rush (or is willing to take the hit) can hold the ball “over 5 seconds” because he “remains a passer” much longer than, say Justin Fields does in similar situations. And, if a team has such a QB, that can deliver an accurately placed ball to all three levels of the field, consistently — you have an All-Pro level QB on your roster..

Simple, isn’t it?
