The Steelers have been rotating quarterbacks throughout the season, trying different options like Kenny Pickett and Mitch Trubisky and neither have proven to be serviceable. Now, as they head into the playoffs against the Buffalo Bills, Mason Rudolph is set to start for the team. Looking ahead, the Steelers could very well be eyeing Justin Fields as a potential option for next season.
For the Chicago Bears, the Steelers could be a potential trade partner, especially considering Mike Tomlin is in his last season of his contract. Pittsburgh’s first-round pick, likely to be in the 20s could be the asking price from Chicago. However, their pick can’t go higher than 19, depending on their playoff performance. Tomlin, who’s been searching for a replacement for Ben Roethlisberger since his retirement, might be eager to make a big swing at the quarterback position this off-season. While the idea of the Bears getting a first-round pick for Justin Fields may seem far-fetched, it could be plausible if a team like the Steelers is desperate enough in the off-season, given their limited ammo to land a QB from the 2024 draft class. This scenario could maximize the return for Chicago if they decide to part ways with Fields.

Kenny Pickett is toast. They will reload at QB next year. The guy in 23 games has 3 games with over 2 or more picks and only one game with 2 TD’s thrown. All other games he had 1 or fewer TD’s. He is 14-10 though.
Just for you Fields’ fans, in 38 starts he has had 8 games of 2 TD thrown or more and 5 games of 2 INT thrown. 10-28 career record.
Not all that much of an upgrade to Pickett is it.

Let’s say the Bears draft a quarterback in the top 15, even at 1. Would you keep Fields to mentor the rookie in how to lead a team, let them sit for at least the first half of the year, knowing you’d lose a 2nd rounder for doing so?
