The Caleb Williams saga has been interesting to watch. Williams has been touted as the next generational talent as he prepares to enter the NFL draft. Many have criticized Williams for sitting out USC’s game against Louisville in the Holiday Bowl. Earlier this year, stories indicating that he only wanted to play for a few teams surfaced. Rumors of wanting a part ownership in any team drafting him did Williams no favors.
Justin Fields supporters were quick to criticize Caleb’s decision to sit out the game last night, pointing out that Fields played in the National Championship game despite suffering an injury to his ribcage in the semi-final round. Williams needed something good to happen last night. If the USC offense struggled without Caleb playing, it would have provided a boost.
The game’s outcome could not have been worse for Williams.
USC destroyed Louisville 42-28. Caleb’s replacement stepped in, and the Trojan offense didn’t lose a step. The Trojan Quarterback, Sophomore Miller Moss, threw for 372 yards and six touchdowns, completing passes to nine different receivers on the night.

Caleb Williams may still be the first QB selected in the NFL draft four months from now. He might not have done himself any favors by sitting this one out. The interviews and tests at the combine will go a long way to determine the pecking order for this year’s quarterback crop.

I’ve said time and again that Riley’s system is and has been the most QB friendly scheme in college football and it isn’t even close. Where Williams deserves credit is that he clearly understood that from the 1 year he played for Riley at Oklahoma and he followed him to USC. Between Mayfield, Murray and now Williams I hope that they sent a healthy portion of their 1st check over to Riley because he earned them a lot of dough and he won’t be the last QB to put up astronomical #s in Riley’s offense. That said, while Mayfield in… Read more »

Guaranteed that Luke Getsy can’t coach offense like Lincoln Riley. . . . but Riley’s brother was just named offensive coordinator at Clemson. Watch Clemson quarterbacks.
Interesting. After a coach produces 3 Heisman winners, 4 first round quarterbacks, multiple running backs, receivers and tight ends in the drafts, you would think that people would accept that it’s the coaching.
Thanks Barry. I just saw 96%. If Carolina loses we get the pick. Heres hopin brother.
