It Looks Like The Chicago Bears Have An Emerging Superstar

-

The Chicago Bears have only three wins this season, which is a big disappointment. Despite this, there are notable positives happening within the team. Among the standout performers is linebacker TJ Edwards, who signed a three-year, $19,500,000 contract with the Bears last summer. Many initially considered this signing a steal, and his current performance suggests it was indeed a great move by Bears GM Ryan Poles. Edwards is showcasing All-Pro caliber play, and his statistics further supports this take.

TJ Edwards has been everywhere on the field, making impact plays consistently. In Week 11, he got his first interception on the season against the Detroit Lions.

But in week 10, Edwards set a Bears franchise record with 112 tackles in his first 10 games, a feat unmatched in the team’s history. Considering the lineage of linebackers that have come through Chicago, this accomplishment by Edwards is remarkable.

While the recognition of an All-Pro status can be unpredictable at times, Edwards consistent performance suggests he might be a strong contender. However, the history of snubs, as seen with Roquan Smith in Chicago, raises the possibility that Edwards could face a similar fate.

There is no question that Edwards has been – by far – the better of the LBs they added in the offseason. I wish they had been willing to give Sanborn a chance as a fulltime starter, and then drafted Ivan Pace with one of their 7th round picks. Along with Edwards and Sewell that would have given us a young, dynamic, and very inexpensive LB corps. They could have used the money spent on Edmunds to try to sign a solid DT / 3Tech if possible. I’ve stated it before, the Edmunds deal has Eberflus’ fingerprints all over it.… Read more »

Now, if only Edmunds could start earning his keep. Edwards plays more like the $72 million acquisition than Edmunds.

Responding to your comment. Roquan was done playing here. He held out, tried to negotiate with out an agent which violated collective bargaining terms and was a general baby. He left Poles no choice. I must say Edwards has picked up the pace and is playing gr8 this year! I thought he would play well, but mistakenly thought Tremaine Edmunds would be the better acquisition.

Great comments below! The Doctor hit the nail on the head. And it just goes to show, the scheme a player excels in, might not be the same in another scheme. Quarterbacks, running backs, safeties, cornerbacks, offensive and defensive lineman, linebackers, tight ends, and the like! When you sign free agents, I think it’s always beneficial to make sure you’re aware of the type of scheme that they are used to playing in. A player can be an All-Pro in one scheme and an alsoran in another! A four three on defense or three four on defense, more of a… Read more »
