According to a report by Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, there are rumors circulating that the Chicago Bears may be considering a trade to acquire Chase Young. In light of this, here are three reasons why the Chicago Bears should seriously consider making this move to add a young and highly skilled pass rusher to their roster.
Chase Young fits the Bears timeline
When looking at the current Chicago Bears team, you might wonder if acquiring Chase Young would be a smart decision. However, it’s important to consider that the Bears are a young team in need of top-tier talent to fill their roster. Chase Young, at just 24 years old, is seeking his next contract. The Bears currently have the most cap space in the NFL. While aquiring Young would likely come with a substantial price tag, it’s a risk worth taking. He could significantly benefit the Bears, not only in the short term but more importantly in the coming years.
The Bears need someone to get to the quarterback
Chase Young excels at getting to the quarterback. Despite some health concerns, his talent justifies the risk. He currently ranks fourth in the NFL for quarterback pressures, totaling 35, among all edge rushers. For comparison, the closet Bear, Demarcus Walker, has 20 pressures, ranking him 35th in the NFL. Young has also secured six sacks on the season, placing him at tenth most among edge rushers. Young’s skillset is exactly what the Bears need right now.
Washington is getting desperate
The primary reason the Chicago Bears may be interested in targeting Chase Young is a recent development reported by ESPN’s Jordan Schultz. The Washington Commanders have shifted from merely receiving trade inquiries to actively initiating trade discussions. This change in their stance suggests they may be in a more urgent position, potentially making them more willing to negotiate and lower their asking price.

The Chicago Bears are in a favorable financial and draft capital position. They have both the money and draft assets to engage in meaningful trade discussions. If the Bears could acquire Chase Young by offering, for example, a 3rd round pick and possibly another late-round selection, it would be a deal worth pursuing, provided they can secure a reasonable contract extension with Young.
Chase Young would also simplify the Bears draft plans for the upcoming draft, allowing them to focus on solidifying their offensive lineup both at receiver (looking at you Marvin Harrison Jr.) and the trenches. They might even consider adding additional pass rushers or defensive tackles in later rounds. This move would represent another bold risk, but it has the potential to yield better results than the previous trade for Chase Claypool.
Should the Bears trade for Chase Young?
I conducted a Twitter poll to gauge the opinions of Bears fans regarding the potential trade for Chase Young. Here are the results.
If what Vtdsypher said is true, that’s a clear win, Young for a 3rd. I suspect Washington might also get a later round pick.
This is a horrible idea. He is overhyped just like Clowney and he’s not going to have Payne and Allen.
Where did you see this?
Supposedly the trade has happened for a 3rd round pick
