Bears Roster Reveal Offers Some Surprises

-

As the clock inched closer to the 3:00 deadline, fans were waiting to see if a few Bears from last year’s roster would be named to the 53-man team heading toward the opening day showdown with their long-time rival Green Bay Packers.

Both Kindle Vildor and Trevis Gipson did not. Both were waived yesterday as the team got down to their first draft of a final roster.

  • Quarterbacks (2): Tyson Bagent, Justin Fields.
  • Running backs (4): D’Onta Foreman, Khalil Herbert, Travis Homer, Roschon Johnson.
  • Fullbacks (1): Khari Blasingame.
  • Receivers (6): Chase Claypool, Velus Jones Jr., Darnell Mooney, DJ Moore, Equanimeous St. Brown, Tyler Scott.
  • Tight ends (3): Cole Kmet, Marcedes Lewis, Robert Tonyan.
  • Offensive linemen (10): Larry Borom, Ja’Tyre Carter, Nate Davis, Dan Feeney, Teven Jenkins, Braxton Jones, Doug Kramer, Lucas Patrick, Cody Whitehair, Darnell Wright.
  • Defensive linemen (9): Andrew Billings, Gervon Dexter Sr., Rasheem Green, Justin Jones, Terrell Lewis, Yannick Ngakoue, Zacch Pickens, Dominique Robinson, DeMarcus Walker.
  • Linebackers (5): Dylan Cole Tremaine Edmunds, T.J. Edwards, Jack Sanborn, Noah Sewell.
  • Cornerbacks (6): Josh Blackwell, Kyler Gordon, Jaylon Johnson, Jaylon Jones, Terell Smith, Tyrique Stevenson.
  • Safeties (4): Jaquan Brisker, Elijah Hicks, Eddie Jackson, A.J. Thomas.
  • Specialists (3): Trenton Gill, Cairo Santos, Patrick Scales.

The roster reclamation started when Ryan Poles took over control of the team has been swift. Only nine drafted players and 11 overall are all that remain from the former GM Ryan Pace’s roster.

Tyson Bagent is the only quarterback not named Fields on the roster. A surprise to many. Coach Eberflus did say the team is looking at available veteran QBs to add to the quarterback room.

In its current state, there are only five linebackers on the roster.

The Bears do have the top position in waiver claims, and all players with less than four years of accrued playing time are subject to waivers. Ryan Poles has an opportunity to pick from any of those players today. The waiver list closes at 11:00 this morning. After 11:00, all teams can begin building their practice squad.

The issue with picking up waivers is we don’t know yet if half these guys can really perform.

TGena… please for the love of god join a different fan base. Make them have to deal with your constant lousy Colin Cowherd-esque takes.

Biggest surprise, Velus Jones is a better option than pretty much any other receiver we had in here.

Think abour it: Maybe it’s Ryan Poles that isn’t a great “scheme fit.”

Teams usually carry more LBs for special teams work. I hope we can cover kicks and punts. Kickoffs may not matter as much anymore though, I guess.
