Last night, the Bears acquired OL Dan Feeney to bolster an ailing offensive line. Adding yet another player with Chicago area roots.
With the addition of Feeney, the Bears have six players who attended Chicago area high schools:
More than 11% of the 2023 roster is now Chicago area talent.
Cole Kmet

Cole Kmet attended St. Viator in Arlington Heights, IL. He was a 2-sport athlete, playing football and baseball. Perhaps his “Home Run Swing” touchdown celebration pays homage to his baseball days. He attended Notre Dame and started at TE his freshman year. Kmet was ranked as the top TE in the 2020 draft by CBS Sports. The Bears selected him in the second round (43rd overall).
T. J. Edwards
The north suburban town of Lake Villa is home to Lakes Community High School, where Edwards was the quarterback for the Eagles. In his senior year, he played three games at safety. He was recruited as a defensive player and played all four years as a Badger. Edwards signed with the Philadelphia Eagles as an undrafted free agent. Edwards joins the Bears after signing a free agent offer this spring.
Jack Sanborn
Sanborn attended Lake Zurich High School. Sanborn had 296 tackles and 13 sacks in three varsity seasons at Lake Zurich. He chose Wisconsin after being heavily recruited by several colleges. After the 2022 draft, the Bears signed Sanborn as a UDFA. After Roquan Smith was traded, he started six games at middle linebacker. Pro Football Focus named him to the 2022 All-Rookie Team.
Robert Tonyan
Tonyan played quarterback for McHenry Community High School. When he graduated, he was the all-time leader in passing yards with more than 5,000 yards. Tonyan is also a UDFA, signing with Detroit after the 2017 draft. Tonyan was cut before the season, and Green Bay signed him to their practice squad later that year.
Doug Kramer
Assuming Kramer makes the final roster, Kramer adds more local flavor to the Bears. Kramer attended Hinsdale Central High School. The Bears drafted him in the 6th round in the 2022 draft.
Dan Feeney
The newest addition to the Bears roster, Feeney attended Carl Sanberg High School in Orland Park. Feeney’s addition to the roster provides a veteran who can play all three interior line positions.
News and Notes
All teams must pair down their rosters to the 53-man limit by 3:00 PM Central time today. Teams can claim non-vested players until 11:00 AM tomorrow.
After 11:00 AM, teams can sign 16 players to their practice squad.
I’m wondering if Poles is trying to create a catalog of linemen he can call up to plug a hole when somebody goes down. If he brings 3 dozen linemen back to Chicago, will they all be told make sure we have your phone number correct?
Imagine having a stable like that in Chicagoland.

If we cut Patrick I’ll feel a little better about this trade. Right now I am really concerned about what this trade says about the true state of health on our OL. I have a sinking feeling that some of our “day-to-day” injuries – aren’t.
Can we at least cut Lucas Patrick. I mean this is basically the same guy (Feeney), and he doesn’t get hurt every 5th snap he is on the field.
Where did Nate Davis attend high school?
