Pete Crow-Armstrong is going to be up with the Chicago Cubs in 2023 and I cannot wait to complain about the times he’s not in the starting lineup. Love this dude’s passion and that’s part of what makes PCA one of the best prospects in baseball. However, he’s gotta stop trying to break his bat over his knee.
During Sunday’s series finale for the Iowa Cubs against the Louisville Bats, Crow-Armstrong came up to the plate with runners at first and second and one out in the eighth inning. Iowa was trailing 7-6, and PCA was in a great spot, ahead in the count at 3-1. However, Daniel Duarte came back and was able to strike out Crow-Armstrong, beating the left-handed hitter with back-to-back fastballs.
A frustrated Crow-Armstrong then tried to break his bat over his right knee and failed to do so.
Again, I absolutely love the competitive spirit from PCA, but this isn’t a one-time occurrence and really nothing good comes from doing this.
Back in April, Crow-Armstrong did break his bat over his knee after a strikeout when he was still at Double-A.
So you know, stop, please! Need PCA healthy because he is on a tear right now and he will be coming up to the majors for the Cubs soon.
This past week, Crow-Armstrong extended his hit streak to 14 games at Triple-A.
Pete Crow-Armstrong 14-Game Hitting Streak
20-for-61, 4 HR, 11 RBI, 19 R, 4 2B, 1 3B, 4 SB
.328/.414/.623, 1.037 OPS, 154 wRC+
18.6 K%, 12.9 BB%
Oh and PCA is also the best center fielder in the minor leagues and would instantly be one of the best defensive outfielders in MLB once he’s called up.
Pete Crow-Armstrong Getting Ready for Call Up
On Sunday, Tommy Birch wrote about Pete Crow-Armstrong’s possible call up to the major leagues and in preparation of that likely scenario, the Iowa Cubs are going to start playing him in the corner outfielder positions beginning this week.
Via the Des Moines Register.
Iowa Cubs manager Marty Pevey said Saturday that Crow-Armstrong, the top prospect in the organization, according to MLB Pipeline, will start playing both corner outfield spots next week. The move could be another hint to a possible promotion later in the year.
“I understand that when I do get called up, if it’s this year specifically, I’ll be playing a role,” Crow-Armstrong said. “I’m not going to just go in and be the centerfielder. I’m going there to provide and contribute in any way that I can to give us the best chance to win ball games.”
Last week, Cubs GM Carter Hawkins was on 670 The Score and confirmed that PCA is on the team’s radar when it comes to potential September call ups, as rosters expand from 26 to 28 players.
Between Double-A and Triple-A this year, PCA has put up a slash line of .290/.376/.514, with 18 home runs, 23 doubles, 6 triples and 32 stolen bases in 89 games.
