Everybody has heard the hottest names when talking about the Chicago Bears 2023 training camp. D.J. Moore is already a revelation at wide receiver. Chase Claypool seems to have also regained some of his form in Pittsburgh. Robert Tonyan is a big factor at tight end. Tyrique Stevenson is already a presence at cornerback, while Andrew Billings, Gervon Dexter, and even Dominique Robinson create havoc up front. All of this while Justin Fields keeps taking steps forward at quarterback.
Former Bears head coach Dave Wanndstedt has attended multiple practices during the summer. He’s seen the same things. First round pick Darnell Wright is somebody he’s excited about, believing the young right tackle will be really good once he learns how to handle the more complex pressure schemes of the NFL. However, one player has jumped out at him in every single practice he’s attended to this point. He had a conversation with GM Ryan Poles about it. The coach revealed the name on Parkins & Spiegel of 670 The Score.
The Chicago Bears have kept Noah Sewell secret.
Despite mounting evidence of his impact on the practice field, they haven’t gone out of their way to sing his praises. The 5th round pick has wreaked havoc for weeks, showcasing his ability as a blitzer and run defender. It seems like every time the offense runs a play, he’s finding his way into the backfield. What stands out the most is his speed. Draft experts stated for months that the 5th round pick from Oregon didn’t show lots of range. Reports from Halas Hall suggest they were wrong. He covers a lot of ground, making it difficult for the offense to deal with him.
This leans into the theory that Sewell may have played the 2022 season hurt. It’s the only way to explain why his tape looks so different from the 2021 version, where he was everywhere. People initially thought it was a scheme change, which likely also played a part in it. Whatever the reason, the Chicago Bears felt they got a steal when landing Sewell. Now he’s been terrorizing camp with the starting defense as Jack Sanborn remains hobbled by injuries. If this carries over into the preseason, he may challenge for the #1 spot alongside Tremaine Edmunds and T.J. Edwards.

I could be wrong but he sorta reminds me of M’ Parson. I think they MIGHT have a package were they have him blitzing. (Wanny isn’t my favorite…I think he drug the bears team down with his lack luster eye for talent(should have never been the head coach AND GM)… so I take what he says with a grain of salt. I did read his draft bio and it said he will be a liability in pass coverage… and I think in this defense the SAM has to do that… but I’m just going by what I’ve read and heard.… Read more »
Jack Sanborn has demonstrated his playmaking ability versus NFL offenses. I believe Noah Sewell has similar traits. All either player has to do is: show up, and show out.
The Bears are in a good position with their LBs this year. Nice work by Ryan Poles and his scouts.
Let the coaches do their work — and select the “best” combination(s). But, having four playmakers at the LB spot is an unusually fortunate situation.
Time will tell.
