Ex-Chicago Bears Player Taken Into Custody for Alleged Fraud Charges

-

Former Chicago Bears cornerback Buster Skrine was arrested on Wednesday on charges of defrauding multiple banks across Canada. Skrine is accused of orchestrating a scheme that resulted in over $100,000 in fraudulent transactions. Skrine is now dealing with a total of 14 charges, all which deal with some sort of fraud. Authorities have expressed a belief that Skrine may have executed similar scams across multiple locations in Canada. Chris Fox from CTV News Toronto reports that the police think the supposed plan started in September 2022 and continued until the summer of 2023.

Skrine was on the Chicago Bears roster for two years in 2019 and 2020. He played in 28 total games but only started 7. He didn’t record any interceptions but made 114 total tackles. Throughout his NFL career of 12 years, he earned more than $40 million according to Spotrac. I’m surprised he had to choose this path considering how much he earned in his career. I’m confident that we’ll learn more information since the investigation is still ongoing.
