Tim Anderson’s bad week continues to get worse. The MLB announced on Monday that Anderson will be suspended six games for his role in the benches-clearing brawl in Cleveland on Saturday night. Guardians’ third baseman Jose Ramirez received three games and closer Emmanuel Clase got one game.
Anderson has been the butt of jokes across social media after getting knocked down by Ramirez. One of the Guardians’ minor league affiliates the Lake County Captains, is having a Jose Ramirez appreciation week. The promotion allows all fans named Tim to have a free seat down on the grass.
According to MLB reporter Hector Gómez Ramirez said he tried to reach out to Anderson.
“I have tried to apologize to Tim Anderson, but he has not answered me. He’s a good player. What happened is something that does not go with my way of being. Everyone who knows me knows that I’m not a troubled man. I like to play hard and try to help my team,” Ramirez said.
Anderson hasn’t been available for media but he did release a series of cryptic Tweets.
Anderson and Ramirez came to blows after Ramirez slid head-first into second base for a hustle double in the sixth inning of Saturday’s night game. Anderson slapped down a tag as Ramírez slid between his legs. Ramírez then got up and voiced his displeasure with the tag. The two then dropped their gloves and squared up.
After throwing a few wild swings, Ramírez connected with Anderson’s jaw causing him to fall backward. Even as teammates tried to forcibly escort him to the dugout Anderson’s legs had trouble staying underneath him as they bucked a few times.
He is having a bad year all around. Hopefully, he, Moncada, Jimenez, Grandal, Sheets, Kopech and a few more will be gone next season. Wait, that is basically rhe entire team?! Exactly my point….sell the damn team, Jerry.
