The Chicago Bears drafted Tyler Scott in the 4th round a little over two months ago. Since then, the young wide receiver has worked hard to acclimate to his new team. Nothing has been more important in that time than developing a connection with his quarterback. Justin Fields is the man with the keys to the kingdom. If you want to find success on this team, it will go through him. Scott knew a vital component of that was learning how Fields thinks and his preferences from a wide receiver.
By most accounts, the rookie has done a good job of that so far. He went from the second-team offense in OTAs to working with the first team in veteran minicamps. The Bears seem to like what they’ve seen. It also appears Scott has developed a healthy respect for his quarterback. He spoke with the Under Center podcast this week. He was asked about what has stuck out the most with Fields. It wasn’t the athleticism or arm talent. No, for Scott, it was the insane dedication, leadership, and competitiveness.
“We were on our way to the United Center one day for a team outing, and he got on a bus, and we’re kind of sitting next to each other, and the whole bus ride, he had his iPad out, and he was watching film from practice, the whole time watching film. Everybody else is on our phones or talking it up, and he was sitting in front of us watching film.
Just seeing how dedicated he is. We were doing sprints one day in practice, and we got to the end of practice, and everybody was kind of dreading it. And then he was like, ‘Well, I’m about to win every single one of them.’ And he ran every one, like, he was gonna win every single one of them. And so, you know, just having that mentality and just kind of leadership, you know, even if he doesn’t say a word, those things are noticed.”
Tyler Scott now understands his QB’s mentality.
There is no wasted opportunity to improve in Fields’ mind. Any downtime is spent watching film or studying the playbook. Practice isn’t treated as a chore to get through. It’s viewed as an opportunity to keep improving. Anybody that isn’t willing to match that same energy probably won’t have Fields’ respect for very long. It is a big reason he and Darnell Mooney hit it off so quickly. The wide receiver is notorious for his own intense work ethic. So now Scott understands what is ahead of him.
If he wants to show every other team in the NFL they made a mistake passing on him, it starts with putting in the work. Every film session and wind sprint matters. He has to give everything he has—no wasted opportunities. Most young players don’t understand that. It is one reason Fields is a rare breed. Typical players his age haven’t quite learned the concept of truly hard work. It’s great that he gives Tyler Scott a glowing example of what it looks like.

QB1 always had his head on straight…. Love to see it!
Just a matter of time before it clicks with his type of work ethic/skill set/capabilities/athleticism…. I could legit see most improved a real possibility this year
I heard a story once from a guy who was a coach on the Patriots when Brady was a rookie. He said Brady asked for a key to the fieldhouse they practiced in so he could get in at nights after practice. Dude gave him a key and told him to keep it quiet because he wasn’t supposed to do that. He said Brady would go there at nights to work on various things on his own. Years later it came out that Belichick discovered what was going on but never said anything.
Lynn Todd another cryer. Get over urself
There’s a mock draft article on NFL.com. They have Fields going number eleven. It feels good that other people also think this kid could be special. I just hope the defense can do something. Scoring thirty points a game and still losing will eventually divide a locker room.
It is refreshing to see that type of dedication…as it should be, given the enormous amount of money players make.
