Getting cohesive execution from the Chicago Bears offense this early is asking a lot. They have several new pieces in the mix, which inevitably leads to a learning curve. That is why Justin Fields has been somewhat off-kilter with his targets at times. The throws are a little bit off. It doesn’t help that Darnell Mooney and Chase Claypool remain out with injury issues. Yet one thing remains the same as the quarterback moved into veteran minicamps. His connection with D.J. Moore is evolving rapidly.
When OTAs began, many at Halas Hall were surprised at how quickly the two seemed in sync on several plays. Fields trusted Moore with timing routes far more than his other receivers. They’ve hit on chunk plays consistently in every single practice. That didn’t change this week. Despite an uneven practice from the offense overall, the two had no issues slicing up the defense multiple times. It had the media in attendance and even their own teammates impressed. Everybody is starting to believe their eyes.
This pairing could go off this season.
Justin Fields has a receiver that fits him perfectly.
His time at Ohio State proved he preferred targets that ran precise routes and were where they were supposed to be on each play. He isn’t the type of quarterback that is comfortable throwing the ball into contested windows. Part of the problem last year is his receivers constantly had trouble gaining separation. This forced him to hold the football waiting for somebody to come open rather than throwing on time and in rhythm. That shouldn’t be a big issue anymore with Moore in the fold.

He is one of the best receivers in the NFL when it comes to getting a good release off the line of scrimmage and creating space with his precise routes. With defenses likely to focus more time on containing him, it should create more opportunities for guys like Claypool and Mooney. They will see more one-on-one coverage. If they win their matchups, Justin Fields will find them. Fans likely can’t wait to get their first look at this pairing next month when training camp begins.
EQ and Pettis were around last year so there should be timing with them. guess it goes to show that they aren’t starter quality.
“He isn’t the type of quarterback that is comfortable throwing the ball into contested windows.”. Uummm… yea, this is the NFL. That is something u gotta get over. Most passes are not going to be to wide open receivers.
Me thinks Claypool is another “China Doll”.
Claypool can’t catch a break. I still think he’s going to do some good things this season. We shall see.
You got that straight Pete. Don’t care about sorry-@ss excuses.
