Waiver Wire Possibilities The Chicago Bears Can Scout During Preseason

-

GM Ryan Poles isn’t done yet. He understands the roster-building work has one more important stretch on the horizon. The Chicago Bears hold the #1 spot in the waiver wire priority list. Another benefit of their difficult season last year. That means they could add some solid talent other teams might cut loose in the next few months. At the very least, it could prove the Bears with necessary depth and special team help. It could drop a quality starter into their laps with some luck.

Much of this depends on how good their pro scouting department is. Poles claims to have one of the best. A great place for them to start would be the team’s upcoming preseason opponents of Tennessee, Indianapolis, and Buffalo. Each will provide the Bears a great opportunity to evaluate their rosters in game-like conditions up close. Depending on what happens, here are some names Poles should monitor.

The Chicago Bears may have more roster opportunities ahead.

Dillon Radunz (OL, Tennessee Titans)

A 2nd round pick in 2021, many felt Radunz would lock down one of the tackle positions in Tennessee for years to come. However, he failed to secure either spot. So the Titans moved him inside to guard, where he was a spot starter on the right and left sides. Yet even that is now in jeopardy after the team drafted Peter Skoronski in the 1st round. Presuming he takes the starting job leaves Radunz the odd man out. Throw in the fact a new GM is in charge; it wouldn’t be shocking if Tennessee cut their loss. The Bears should absolutely be interested. Radunz looked promising at left guard, allowing two pressures in two starts last year.

Kenny Moore (CB, Indianapolis Colts)

There have been rumblings for months that the Colts might be nearing the decision to part ways with the former Pro Bowl nickel cornerback. It’s felt he isn’t the best fit for Gus Bradley’s system. His status was put even further in question when Indianapolis drafted two cornerbacks, Julius Brents and Darius Rush, in the 2nd and 5th rounds, respectively. That may give them the incentive necessary to let Moore walk. If so, a reunion with Matt Eberflus in Chicago makes all the sense in the world.

Siran Neal (CB, Buffalo Bills)

A team can never have enough good cornerbacks. Neal has spent his entire time as a backup in Buffalo but played well whenever given opportunities. He is solid in coverage and has experience in a 4-3 defense. His greatest value is special teams. Since he arrived in 2018, Neal has 42 special teams tackles. His value in the third phase is impossible to dispute. He would provide the Chicago Bears with quality depth on defense and an immediate valued presence in their kickoff and punt coverage.

Love DHC but he is a known quantity. They want him out of the way to get a look at the younger guys. Won’t be surprised if DHC is in camp.

Have the Bears given up on DeAndre Houston-Carson? I noticed he is still unsigned and he has been a quality back up DB for them and a great special teams player.

Tonkaman’s right – we need a better center and a good edge rusher.

If Poles grabs too many guys off late FA, some good picks will be poached off the PS. Could become a delicate balancing act.

I suspect 1 of the 2 CBs and the LG.

But not at the expense of an EDGE DE!

Plus, Bears should get a solid backup C and hope he is not needed.

I predict 10-7 regular season, improving game by game. Once in the playoffs, no one will want to play the Bears! Their drive and emotion will could be very powerful. And Overpowering! SB.
