BREAKING: Eloy Jiménez To The Injured List

-

Death. Taxes. Eloy Jiménez getting injured. Eloy is one of the most injury-prone players in the league, so it was only a matter of time before we got this notification. I for one, did not think it would be this quick, as the White Sox have only played 5 games and he has started as the Designated Hitter.

So It Begins

This morning we got the news that Eloy would be put on the injured list with a “low-grade left hamstring strain.” This is surprising, as he did not seem to show any sign of injury in the home opener. The White Sox’s corresponding move is bringing up INF Jake Burger, who was originally snubbed off the opening-day roster.

Additional news has come out that he will miss approximately 2-3 weeks, putting him on a timetable from late April to early May. This is not good news, as he is a big part of the White Sox lineup. It was imperative for the sake of the team that Eloy remains healthy. Well, 5 games into the season and he is already on the shelf.

The Inevitable Happens

The alleged reason the White Sox let Jose Abreu go in free agency was to free up the first base and designated hitter spots to allow Andrew Vaughn to play his natural position of first, and more importantly, get Eloy out of the outfield.

The main reason for getting Eloy out of the field was to avoid major injury. Over the years he has gotten hurt by running into walls or trying to jump over them to rob home runs. The White Sox figured getting him out of the field would eliminate most of his injury concerns. That is not the case.

While we wait for more news on what happened, we can assume something happened on the off day yesterday or something happened running the bases on Monday. Whatever the case, Eloy is out for the near future.

Eloy was off to a decent start to the season hitting .211 and driving in three runs. Those are not the numbers he was looking to start off with, but it could have been worse. It seems that a combination of Jake Burger, Gavin Sheets, and potentially Romy Gonzalez will rotate in at DH to fill in, depending on the matchup.

Hopefully, Eloy heals up quickly and comes back closer to two weeks rather than three. The White Sox will need him if they want to compete.

Unfortunately you are right. These younger players might be faster and stronger but they sure are not tougher and easily breakdown

Off to a decent start hitting .211 and driving in 3 runs? That may be a decent start for a kid playing t-ball in his first year ever, but certainly not in any organized baseball. Craig are you smoking the 5 point leaf ? Asking for a friend.
