The Derrick Rose fairytale story can finally come to the final chapter with the former MVP wearing a Bulls uniform again. It’s an idea that has been tossed around every time Derrick Rose visits the United Center suiting up for the opposing team. Finally, as Derrick Rose finds himself outside the rotation, the dream can soon become a reality for Chicago fans.
“Forget honoring [derrick rose], maybe the bulls should trade for him. rose is making $14 million so it wouldn’t be easy. the athletic’s darnell mayberry spends a lot of time around the bulls and i think he’s got the right idea…they could use rose, on and off the court.” – jon greenberg via the athletic
Knicks Want To Do Right By Derrick Rose
Marc Stein, via Substack, believes Knicks management wants to do right by Derrick Rose at the trade deadline. That means one of two things, either they’ll send him to a championship contender team, or he’s sent back to his hometown to the Bulls. A less likely scenario is he can be traded virtually anywhere but would be bought out immediately, allowing him to sign with any team he desires.
“THE KNICKS, WHO HAVE BEEN SCOUTING THE BULLS CLOSELY OF LATE, ARE ANOTHER TEAM ON WHICH TO KEEP AN EYE.” KC JOHNSON VIA NBC SPORTS CHICAGO on alex caruso trade rumors
It seems as though the Knicks could give the Bulls a call for Alex Caruso. The Bulls have a lot of backcourt depth even without Lonzo Ball on the court, so trading Caruso with an all-time high value makes a lot of sense for the Bulls to help figure out their front-court issues. The Bulls would have to get creative in a three-team trade to bring in Derrick Rose’s $14 million salary and a quality front-court piece.
Chicago Bulls Receive: Derrick Rose and Isaiah Hartenstein
New York Knicks Receive: Alex Caruso and Reggie Bullock
Dallas Mavericks Receive: Coby White and Tony Bradley
This is the ultimate win-win-win for all the teams involved. Firstly, the Bulls would get a big man they were interested in over the summer in free agency with great size in Isaiah Hartenstein. He can be a great addition off the bench this season, but he also would be an insurance policy if Nikola Vucevic walks in free agency. They also inject the city of Chicago with the Derrick Rose energy, which will have the United Center rocking every night.
The Knicks can eliminate Hartenstein and Rose, both players who have fallen out of favor with the team. They can add two excellent rotational players, Alex Caruso and Reggie Bullock. Both players fit the Tom Thibodeau style of play. For a team serious about making the playoffs, Caruso and Bullock will pay dividends in the coming weeks.
Dallas Mavericks are desperate to find Luka Doncic scoring help. Coby White is the ultimate bandage fix to their problem until they figure out a more permanent solution. Coby White can get buckets, that is without a doubt. Dallas should be targeting White with or without this three-team structure.

That ship seems to have sailed. Derrick Rose in his prime probably but now it feels more sentimental then anything else. A knock against him is unfortunately he was part of the reason the team could never make it over the hump to become a championship caliber team. He refused to help the Bulls recruit free agents (Lebron James and others). “Derrick Rose Says He’ll ‘Never Recruit’ Free Agents to Chicago Bulls” A headline from a 2013 article from Bleacher Report. So dunno how much of an impact he would have coming back to play for a team he refused… Read more »
