The Chicago Bulls have been in the rumor mill as of late, and rightfully so. The Bulls have plenty of quality star power on the team despite their poor start to the season. By admitting this team needs either a rebuild or retooling, Arturas Karnisovas needs to make a decision quickly as this team continues to sink faster than the Titanic. Bleacher Report put out an idea to send Zach LaVine to the Dallas Mavericks:
Trade Scenario To Send Zach LaVine to Dallas
Bulls Trade: Zach LaVine & Coby White
Mavericks Trade: Tim Hardaway Jr., Reggie Bullock, Josh Green, Davis Bertans, 2027 first-round pick
Does This Make Sense For Both Teams?
For the Bulls, they’d be receiving a massive haul of role players. That’s about it. If the addition of LaVine makes the Mavericks a far better team than they are today, then the 2027 pick becomes less valuable. That said, this move isn’t a ‘tank mode’ kind of trade for the Bulls. They could net a lot in draft capital from the Knicks or Kings who are desperate to land a star. For the Bulls, this would make them slightly better as they add depth across the board to go along with a 2027 draft pick. It’s hard to say if Arturas Karnisovas is great at evaluating talent. It seems like he missed the Patrick Williams pick in 2020 with Tyrese Haliburton sitting there waiting to be picked by the Bulls. He did redeem himself by finding Ayo Dosunmu in the second round. If Arturas Karnisovas could find talent with a late first-round pick, you might as well roll the dice on this trade. With or without this trade, the Bulls are a borderline play-in team. At least get some tradable assets and a draft pick in return.
For the Mavericks, they would be giving up their depth for a star. Those who follow the Bulls closely wouldn’t necessarily define Zach LaVine as a star, despite what his contract says. However, Dallas has a history of bad misses in NBA free agency, landing LaVine who is locked into a five-year deal could show Luka Doncic they are serious about winning. Afterall, we are now in an era where general managers must prove themselves to the players otherwise trade request rumors could start popping up. LaVine could provide much-needed relief to Luka Doncic as a natural-born scorer. If the Mavericks are serious about landing LaVine, they need to throw in a few more draft picks to grab the Bulls’ attention.
So because somebody at Bleacher Report says Dallas could technically trade for LaVine…now it’s news. Because it COULD happen. What great pride you must have in your craft and such respect for the reader! This is some serious journalism, bud!
No, no, and hell no! That is not nearly enough for Zach regardless of what some may think of his lack of defense. When put in the right system, he will carry a team. In any trade, he is worth at least another starter, role player and one or two prime draft picks. How about this instead: Zach Lavine and Coby White to the Knicks for Julius Randle, Derrick Rose and Immanuel Quickley and a 2023 first & second round picks.
Everyone of these proposals that involve the Bulls on B/R or ESPN have them giving up established players for fuckin’ garbage. This would be a terrible trade.
