Justin Fields was at the center of a minor controversy when the quarterback apologized to his Chicago Bears teammates after the loss in Atlanta. He felt his interception in the final minute cost them the game and wanted to take accountability. While everybody in the locker room appreciated it, it was also a source of frustration for some. The fact Fields had to apologize at all didn’t feel right. Not when others on the roster were more directly responsible for this team’s inability to close out games over the past two months. Equanimeous St. Brown voiced that frustration during a podcast with The 33rd Team.
He understood precisely what Fields was doing. He’s the quarterback and the leader of the team. It is his job to accept responsibility when they don’t win. However, St. Brown reiterated football is a team game. The Bears have had a terrible habit of a phase of their roster suffering a breakdown in critical moments each week, costing them a chance at wins. The frustration was evident in his voice, stating he was tired of saying it, but he knew they were close. They are so close to turning the corner. It has to be about everybody doing their jobs.
Equanimeous St. Brown is correct in his assessment.
The last person who should be apologizing is Fields. He’s done more than anybody on the roster to give the Bears chances to win almost every game they’ve played for the past seven weeks. It’s been everywhere else that is the problem. The defense allowed a go-ahead score in four games during that stretch, including against Atlanta. St. Brown is also guilty. He and other wide receivers have suffered brutal mistakes in the 4th quarter. Ihmir Smith-Marsette with his fumble in Minnesota. Darnell Mooney juggling what would’ve been a game-winning TD against Washington. St. Brown letting a pass go through his hand on 4th down against Miami.
That doesn’t even account for the special teams muffing punts, allowing punts blocked, and allowing a kick return touchdown. All of these things have contributed to the Bears losing several tight games. Five of their last six losses have been by seven points or less. That is what Equanimeous St. Brown meant when he said they were close. A few fortunate bounces go their way, and this team could possibly have a winning record. Fields can’t do everything himself, including shoulder the blame.

Maybe some self-inflection?

BDOT708: Apparently he’s too busy building “his brand” and his podcast for that
Bears are in good hands now.now they can go build a team around Justin.ton of cap space next year plus 8 picks plus they have solid players already but line on both sides. I would tank the remainder of season trade down for more picks.this team will be draft built!!!!!!!!
He said what needed to be said. In My Humble Opinion.
When the Bears play as a team, they will become Da Bears.
