Evidence Is Growing Luke Getsy Has Won Over His Players

-

Several Chicago Bears offensive players are new arrivals on the team. They haven’t seen what it was like before 2022. They didn’t have to endure the years of coaching ineptitude led by Matt Nagy and Dowell Loggains. Guys like Justin Fields, Cody Whitehair, Darnell Mooney, Cole Kmet, and David Montgomery endured a lot over the previous few years. So it would take lots of convincing for them to believe things were pointed in the right direction. That was the challenge Luke Getsy faced.

The former Green Bay Packers passing game coordinator came in with tons of pedigree. He had the full vote of confidence from quarterback Aaron Rodgers. He’d helped his former team reach the NFC championship twice in three years and put together one of the best offenses in football. The problem was Bears players had heard stuff like that before when Nagy arrived in 2018.

That doesn’t seem to have stopped Getsy from achieving his first critical goal: getting his players to believe in him. Montgomery said as much during his recent presser. Jeff Joniak and Tom Thayer of Bears All Access discussed it before the team’s preseason finale against Cleveland.

Luke Getsy knows it’s all about results.

Preaching the scheme is one thing. Putting it into practice is another. He needed to show his players that if they bought into this new offense, they would move the ball and score points. Through two preseason games, there have been flashes. The starters moved the ball well against the Chiefs and Seahawks despite not scoring many points. It was clear right away Getsy has a firm grasp of scheming players open and keeping the play calls balanced.

Word is he’s been a stickler for details from day one. Every little thing matters. He isn’t afraid to ride his players hard. It is likely a big reason they’ve committed so few penalties. Better execution is still needed, but progress is there. Players can see it not just in the games but in practice. Luke Getsy has a plan. He knows what he’s trying to do. That sense of direction means so much to guys that haven’t had any in years.

Getsy is the real deal, and the biggest blow to Green Bay was Eberflus stealing him away from A Rodgers and GB. When A Rodgers cries about GB letting a coach go, you know it is a very important cog in the GB whellhouse.

I’m feeling very good about the coaching staff and the direction that the Bears are headed… and I’m not a typical fan sucker. The last time I felt this way was shortly after Ditka came aboard. That being said, they’re still pushing the rocket to the launch pad and we’re aiming for far away. It’s going to take a while folks. Enjoy the journey.

Wow, as I read these comments on all the Bears articles it is like some of these folks think the Bears were a player or two away from the Super Bowl. Do you not remember the last few years? The Bears absolutely sucked and while we had some great players, there were only a few of them, plus the coaching was horrendous. The Bears are not going to win ten games this year and make the playoffs. It ain’t happening so get prepared for it……we will lose a lot of games and if we win seven or eight it would… Read more »

I want to see more than a little evidence tonight. Let’s see some outright PROOF that this offense can run, pass, control the clock, score points and scheme people for success.
