The Cubs are bringing in another veteran pitcher as they have reportedly signed soon-to-be 37-year-old reliever David Robertson.
To make room on the 40-man roster, the Cubs have placed Codi Heuer on the 60-day injured list. Heuer will miss all of the 2022 season after having Tommy John surgery.

Robertson appeared in 12 games for the Rays in 2021. The right-handed reliever had a 4.50 ERA and 1.25 WHIP in 12 innings for Tampa Bay.
The righty hasn’t pitched a full MLB season since 2018. Since then he’s had Tommy John surgery and during his rehab he suffered a setback that led to Robertson missing the 2020 season. In 2018, Robertson made 69 appearances with the Yankees and was solid, posting a 3.23 ERA in 69.2 innings. Since making his MLB debut in 2008, Robertson has saved 137 game, most of which came between 2014-17 with the Yankees and White Sox.
Despite not having a full healthy season in four years it looks like the Cubs feel pretty confident that he’ll be at 100% this year. Robertson is getting a base salary of $3.5 million plus incentives that could make it a $5 million contract.

Robertson has a career 2.93 ERA and 1.16 WHIP in 673 appearances. Hopefully he has recovered fully from his Tommy John surgery and give the Cubs a much-needed reliever to pitch in tight situations late in games.
