Nobody ever would’ve thought that DK Metcalf would play in any other uniform than the Seattle Seahawks. He made the Pro Bowl in 2020. He scored 12 touchdowns last season. There is no question the 25-year old wide receiver is a playmaker. Yet it seems his team is prepared to hit the reset button after trading star quarterback Russell Wilson and releasing All-Pro linebacker, Bobby Wagner. This has led to speculation that Metcalf might be available via trade.
He’s in the last year of his rookie contract and will be a free agent in 2023. If Seattle wanted to get picks back for him, this would be the time to do so. The Chicago Bears obviously need wide receivers with Allen Robinson departing for free agency. Maybe a deal can be struck if the price isn’t crazy. One thing is for sure. Metcalf himself would probably jump at the chance to play for Chicago.
After all, he grew up a Bears fan.
People likely don’t remember that this 6’4 freak of nature is the son of Terrence Metcalf. Older Bears fans will remember he was their 3rd round pick back in 2002. He started 25 games, including 13 in 2005 when they won the NFC North. He never played for another team in his career, spending seven seasons in navy blue. In December of 2020, he told 670 The Score what it would’ve meant to his son if the Bears had been able to draft him.
“One thing I did ask him is what if Chicago had drafted you? Man, if that had happened that would’ve been another godsend, another blessing for him. He’s a huge Chicago fan just because, you know, that’s our family. So, we would’ve loved that.”
DK Metcalf would be a tremendous addition to the Bears roster. His size alone is something they don’t have. Never mind the game-breaking speed he displays. Given how similar Fields is to Russell Wilson in play style, the two would likely hit it off immediately. Alas, the logistics of this deal don’t seem feasible. Seattle will demand a big package for Metcalf. Probably one that includes a 1st round pick. The Bears don’t have one to offer.

So unless Ryan Poles has some magic up his sleeve, this is little more than wishful thinking. That is unless Metcalf himself intervenes. Crazier things have happened.
