Brad Biggs has covered the Chicago Bears for the Chicago Tribune for a long time. During that extended period, he’s demonstrated a strong series of connections to the team. Whenever some inside information comes out, he is usually one of the first to make it public. This offseason was especially true when he broke the Bears’ interest in Andy Dalton and the pending release of Kyle Fuller.
A lot of people haven’t caught on to in recent years how sharp he’s been at pinpointing which direction the team likely goes with their early draft picks. In all but one of the past six years, he has correctly predicted which position the Bears end up selecting with their top pick.
- 2015 – WR
- 2016 – OLB
- 2017 – DE
- 2018 – ILB
- 2019 – RB
- 2020 – CB/WR
The only one he got wrong was the Mitch Trubisky pick in 2017.
He can be excused for that since the Bears did everything in their power to throw people off their trail. What makes this so important to note comes courtesy of Biggs’ final mock draft of 2021. In it he has the Bears moving up in the 1st round as many predict. Their target? A quarterback of course. Trey Lance of North Dakota State to be specific.
Don’t read too much into that. Biggs hasn’t always gotten the exact player right. This is more about him making it crystal clear. He believes the Bears are targeting a quarterback early and are willing to move up to get one. Who their ultimate target might be? Only they know that for certain.

Brad Biggs at least offers some extra excitement
One thing that he and other Bears insiders have harped on for weeks now is the belief that there is no way the team views Andy Dalton are their primary move at quarterback. The 33-year old veteran was nothing more than insurance in case their other plans fail to materialize. They have higher aspirations than that. What better way to get fans invested in this team than by taking another big swing at quarterback?
Ryan Pace no doubt hopes to wash the stink of Mitch Trubisky off his legacy as fast as possible. Matt Nagy has yet to pick his own QB since joining the team in 2018. This could be his one and only chance. These two men are known for being aggressive in how they think. On and off the field. This is what makes it so easy to believe they are ready and willing to make a bold jump as Brad Biggs suggests.
It comes to a pair of key factors.
The right QB being available and a team high enough to get them who is willing to move down. SM has been told for the past couple of weeks that the most likely window of opportunity will be between the 8th and 10th picks where Carolina, Denver, and Dallas all seem at least open to moving back. As to their target? The persistent name that keeps coming up is Justin Fields of Ohio State. Whether that is true or just an elaborate smokescreen will be determined in less than 48 hours.
