Early 2021 Masters Odds – Favorites, Tips and Information

-

It seems like just yesterday that the 2020 Masters Tournament ended, with Dustin Johnson taking the green jacket from defending champ Tiger Woods. Not even half a year later, the Masters are back. The 2021 Masters is scheduled for Thursday, April 8 at Augusta National Golf Club in Augusta.

As mentioned before, Dustin Johnson is the defending Masters Champion. Repeating back-to-back at Augusta is very hard to do, but despite that, sportsbooks have made him the early favorite to win at +550.

While repeating is very hard, it’s quite understandable that he leads the pack in the early odds. DJ absolutely dominated the field in 2020, shooting an insane 20-under par for the contest, while also shooting under par in all four rounds. The last player to win back-to-back Masters Tournaments was Woods in 2002.

Tiger Woods Dominates The Masters

If there is one player throughout his career that absolutely loves Augusta, it’s Tiger. He has won the Masters an incredible six times in his legendary career, which includes his highly improbable win during the 2019 tournament. Woods’ 2021 season will be delayed due to back surgery.

Woods’ released a statement on Twitter that he had undergone a procedure to remove a “pressurized disc fragment that was pinching his nerve”, which has been an injury that has been nagging him ever since the PNC Championship in December. “I look forward to beginning training and am focused on getting back on tour,” said Woods.

The good news is that he should hopefully be back for the Masters, so let us hope that we see the six-time champ out there at Augusta in 2021. Without him, it just doesn’t seem right or as magical as Augusta can be. If you want to bet on one of Golf’s biggest legends, you can get some great odds on Tiger at DraftKings Sportsbook, where he currently sits at +3100.

The Favorites

The betting favorite before the 2020 Masters tournament was Bryson DeChambeau, who comes into the 2021 contest at +1100. He didn’t come close to winning the event, finishing in a very disappointing tie for 34th place at 2-under, 18 strokes behind the winner Johnson.

Some of the other notable favorites include Rory McIlroy at +900, Jon Rahm at +1000, Justin Thomas at +1000, and Brooks Koepka at +1400.

Sleeper Pick

It’s still very early to be picking favorites and giving tips, but one player I would take a look at right now is Patrick Cantlay coming in at 25-1 odds. I feel like he has a much better chance to win the tournament than his odds imply. Cantlay continues to be a strong player and has been rising up the PGA ranks, asserting himself as the 11th-ranked player in the world. He has been torching the competition recently, recording his third career PGA Tour victory at the Zozo Championship. He has also finished in the top 15 in four of his last six starts, including a runner-up finish at The American Express in January.

His terrific iron play has helped him sustain his success recently, which helped him rank seventh in birdie average and 16th in scoring average. He is a very good sleeper pick in my opinion and a golfer who is easily capable of winning the 2021 Masters.
