PointsBet: Watson’s Odds Of Playing For Bears Falls Significantly, But There’s Still A Chance

-

Will he stay or will he go? Houston Texans QB Deshaun Watson, if traded this offseason, will be the key piece in likely the largest trade the NFL has ever seen. Watson has scrubbed all of his social media accounts of Texans’ mentions, similar to what Allen Robinson did earlier this season with the Bears, and has reportedly demanded a trade.

So what is going to happen next?

Bears Odds Fall To (+1200)

Well, if you’re hoping he will end up on the lakefront, you may want to stop reading here. According to the Pointsbet’s latest odds, the Bears’ current odds sit at (+1200), much lower than the (+550) mark they were at in early January.

Now for the good news.

Do odds mean anything in professional sports trades? The answer to that is a firm no. Deshaun Watson is going to go where Deshaun Watson wants to go because his name is Deshaun Watson.

Bears Can Make This Happen…Here’s How

According to John McClain, a man who has been covering the Houston Texans for nearly 50 years, this is what it would take to get the 25-year-old superstar.

The Bears may not have as high of draft picks, but they certainly have young defensive stars on their rookie contracts. The Jets, Dolphins, Panthers cannot say the same. In the NFL, proven talent outweighs draft capital.

The Bears can offer three first-round picks, two second-round picks, Roquan Smith (All-Pro) ILB, and CB Jaylon Johnson. Looking at where Watson could end up (New Orleans, San Francisco, Indianapolis, New York, Miami, Chicago), this hypothetical offer is very hard to beat.

For the Colts, if they were willing to part ways with their All-Pro LB Darius Leonard and S Malik Hooker, that may entice Houston to pull the trigger. The Colts (+1000) are a team to watch closely because of their desperation for a QB, much like the Bears and Jets.

As far as the Broncos go (+1000), they are nowhere near ready to compete for championships. Due to Watson’s no-trade clause, he can ultimately pick where he wants to end up. He is not going to play in Denver.

Four Most-Likely Landing Spots

In my mind, here are the four most-likely landing spots for Watson based on players available:

  1. San Francisco – First off, look at their defense. When healthy, it’s the best in the NFL, even after a potential trade. Not to mention everyone thrives under Kyle Shanahan’s offense. This is my pick for Watson because it would be a seamless fit.
  2. New York Jets – Defense isn’t great, but their serious cap room may help surround Watson with weapons. But they play in the AFC and doesn’t help.
  3. Chicago Bears – Watson wanted to play with Eric Bieniemy for a reason. Matt Nagy runs the same offense from the Andy Reid coaching tree. The Bears are also in the NFC, and that means Houston wouldn’t have to play against Watson in the playoffs in the future.
  4. New Orleans – The second-best coach in the NFL in Sean Payton, Alvin Kamara, and Michael Thomas. Can you imagine Watson pairing up with this offense? I can’t, mostly because they wouldn’t be able to afford it. New Orleans would have to flip their roster over to land Watson, but even they know it would be worth it. Also, they are in the NFC too.

PointsBet Offering $1500 In Risk-Free Bets

We’re just under one week away from Super Bowl LV, and everyone knows you’ll be watching the game. Whether you’re a fan or not, the Super Bowl is a reason to get together with friends, have some beers, and have some fun betting on what color the Gatorade shower is going to be.

Jokes aside, PointsBet is offering two risk-free bets up to $1500 for the Super Bowl. If you’re a new user, all you have to do is enter our promo code MOCKERY.

The first bet is a fixed-odds bet. You can use this on any line made available. Personally, I would use this on the Chiefs to cover (-3). The second is a point betting wager worth up to $1000.

Good luck!
