Thanksgiving Day Early Lines

Lions vs. Texans (11:30 a.m.)

While this won’t be the most exciting game in the NFL, I plan on making it interesting by betting against a bad Lions defense. The Texans (-3) open as three-point favorites against a banged-up Lions offense, following Deshaun Watson’s best game of 2020 against the Patriots.

Watson is having a great season, despite the team’s poor record. With his two, healthy wide receivers, Will Fuller and Brandin Cooks, coming off of great games against a strong Patriots secondary, there’s a good chance they will follow that up against a bad Lions team.

The Lions have lost three Thanksgiving games in-a-row, but keep in mind the Texans are 3-7 against the spread this year.

The over/under is 51.5 total points. Depending on the health statuses of Kenny Golladay and DeAndre Swift, this is a good game to take the under. Without those two, the Lions put up a big, fat zero on the scoreboard against a middle-of-the-pack Panthers defense.

I will take Texans to cover, on the money line (-160) and the under.

Washington Football Team vs. Cowboys (3:30 p.m.)

This game may be worse than the first game of the day, but the early lines will certainly make this game worth watching.

The Cowboys (-3) are three-point favorites, but they are a tough team to bet on. They are 2-8 against the spread in 2020, but they have dominated this rivalry against Washington the past decade. That being said, Washington beat them 25-3 earlier this year.

Personally, I am staying against the spread in this one because I don’t trust either team on either side of the ball. Statistically, Dallas has the worst defense in the NFL (32nd) and Washington has a bottom-five offense.

The over/under is 46 points. Ezekiel Elliot is coming off his first 100-yard game of the year, Andy Dalton has a couple of games under his belt as the starter, and the Washington offense has put up 20 plus points in their last four. Give me the Football Team on the money line (+130) and the over.

Baltimore Ravens vs. Pittsburgh Steelers (7:20 p.m.)

Well, with COVID-19 surging through the Baltimore locker room this game may not happen. But if it does, this will be one of the best games of the calendar year. Both teams are top-five teams in the league and the Steelers are undefeated.

The Steelers (-4) open at four-point favorites and have gone 6-4 against the spread this year. With their offense firing on all cylinders and the Baltimore running backs out with COVID-19, this is a good play. Keep in mind that the Ravens are 5-1 against the spread on the road when underdogs.

The over/under is set at 44.5 points. The Ravens rely heavily on their run game, as they run the ball more than any team in the league. Without JK Dobbins and Mark Ingram, Lamar Jackson will be forced to throw a lot more. That’s not a recipe for success against the league’s best defense, led by star safety Minkah Fitzpatrick.

The Steelers will surely put up their fair share of points, so I will take Steelers on the money line (-221) at home and the over.
