Exec Warns Mitch Trubisky’s “Great” Camp Is A Mirage

-

Cordarrelle Patterson came out recently and said Mitch Trubisky has looked “great” throughout most of training camp. Obviously the Chicago Bears offensive weapon wasn’t going to bash his quarterback on a national platform. Still, for some, it was validation that the 26-year old quarterback may have finally ironed out some of his most pressing concerns.

Some remain skeptical though. Dan Graziano was on ESPN “Get Up” recently and said he’s heard people say Trubisky is having a great camp before. Then the results in actual games tended to differ. Last season was a low point. People like to try shifting the blame elsewhere. It was the lack of a running game. It was no help from the tight ends or it was Matt Nagy’s play calling.

While all of those things were issues, they couldn’t cover up an undeniable reality. Too many times in 2019, Trubisky simply looked lost. Defenses were able to confuse him regularly, leading to indecisiveness and constant mental mistakes. Jeff Hughes of Da Bears Blog has a high-ranking NFL exec as a friend.

He stated that the writing is already on the wall. Some people just don’t see it yet.

“Once they declined the fifth year, they made their feelings pretty well-known around the league. But we do feel ownership over the guys we draft, especially the guys we draft early. He and Matt will be looking for signs from Trubisky whereas they won’t be with Foles. They know what they’re getting there. But our folks just think Trubisky doesn’t process the game fast enough and that deficiency doesn’t reveal itself until Sundays.”

Mitch Trubisky does everything right but it just doesn’t matter

What’s so tragic about Trubisky is there is nothing wrong with the makeup of this kid. He’s talented, a leader, and works as hard or harder than anybody to be great. Yet sometimes that just isn’t enough. This is a reminder why quarterback is the most difficult position in all of professional sports to play. All the preparation in the world won’t matter if the brain can’t process at NFL speeds.

Pro defenses are not just complex, they’re constantly evolving. Beating them once means the next one you face will adapt in whatever ways necessary to take away what you do best. Only the quarterbacks who can continue to evolve themselves survive. Trubisky hasn’t been able to keep up. If the Bears give him one last chance, it sounds like most believe they’ll end up disappointed.
