Head coach Matt Nagy has remained steadfast on two things to this point. The Chicago Bears intend to run a fair and even quarterback competition and no decision will be made yet. In fact, he has no plans to reveal whether Mitch Trubisky or Nick Foles is the guy until the team heads off to Detroit for the opener against the Lions.
However, there is a difference between making a decision official and making up one’s mind. After two weeks into training camp, does Nagy have an idea of who the guy is going to be? It’s an interesting question. His eye is far more educated on quarterbacks than anybody in the media. Bears beat writers have been unanimous in saying neither guy has stood out to this point.
Yet the head coach might see things differently. Mike Greenberg of ESPN conducted a panel session on the Bears quarterback derby. He posed this question to Tim Hasselbeck, a former QB himself. The answer was pretty interesting.
Matt Nagy knows he can’t delay the decision much longer
Hasselbeck is right. By now the coaching staff and players probably have a good idea of who the guy is (or should be). Nagy knows pushing the decision down the road much longer will not serve the best interests of his team. That is why many believe the actual choice will be made at some point before the end of this week. He may wish to give Trubisky and Foles a few more practices to be sure.

So who will it be? That depends on who you ask. A lot of people think it has to be Trubisky. He’s had more “wow” throws in training camp. The Bears have already invested so much in him. They almost have to give him one more chance, right? At the same time, others feel Foles has looked more consistent and “in control” of the offense. He looks more like the professional quarterback.
Only Nagy knows the answer and he’s not telling. That doesn’t mean he hasn’t already made up his mind though.
