The White Sox keep going down with injuries at an alarming rate so far in the shortened, 60-game season. The latest player to exit a game early is veteran catcher Yasmani Grandal, who was taken out in the sixth inning after fielding a slow tapper in front of the plate and throwing out Austin Romine.
You could tell something was off with Grandal, as he kind of lobbed the throw to first base for the out.
Despite it looking like it may be a shoulder issue, the White Sox later announced that Grandal left because of a stiff lower back.
Grandal entered play Monday night with a .230/.347/.328, slash line with just one home run and three doubles in 18 games.
The White Sox will improve to 12-11 following Monday’s win, but man oh man have they endured a boatload of injuries. Have to give them credit for staying afloat so far in what’s already a stressful season.
UPDATE
Following the game White Sox manager Rick Renteria had some positive comments about Grandal, as this seems to be a minor issue for the switch-hitting catcher.
