In an interview with 670 The Score on Monday morning, Blackhawks chairman Rocky Wirtz said he doesn’t see his son, Danny, permanently serving as the team’s president.
Chicago Blackhawks chairman Rocky Wirtz spoke publicly on 670 The Score’s “Mully & Haugh Show” on Monday morning for the first time since firing John McDonough as team president and CEO back on Apr. 27. The interview was largely about the Blackhawks’ future plans regarding the team’s president, which is currently being filled by Rocky’s son, Danny Wirtz, in an interim role.
When asked about Danny’s long-term plans with the team, Rocky wanted to be clear that his son’s time as president is only temporary.
“I don’t see [Danny] permanently being in that position,” Wirtz said. “Only because he’s involved in all the other businesses, and I would hate to see him not contribute to other businesses and just be with the Hawks.”
Wirtz also added that the search for a new president will begin following the conclusion of the Blackhawks’ current Stanley Cup Playoff run. Of course, that could be any day now, as the Hawks currently trail the No. 1-seeded Vegas Golden Knights 3-1 in their best-of-seven first-round series.
“Danny is keeping the train on the tracks, and I think the next person we bring in is going to have to follow these same kind of values that have been developed and see how she or he fits into that position,” Wirtz said. “But I promise you one thing, whoever the next person is, it’s not just going to be hockey related.”
