Anthony Rizzo Drops Bomb Regarding Future Of Cubs Core

-

We are 15 games into the COVID-19 shortened MLB season and the Cubs currently sit atop the NL Central at 12-3. The team has not only been playing very good baseball but they’ve also had a ton of fun doing it. It almost reminds me of the 2016 team that won it all. They still have a long way to go in replicating that team’s success but they are off to a great start. Speaking of that roster, let’s talk about the core players from that group. Most of them are still here. However, it’s fair to wonder how much time the team will remain intact. According to Anthony Rizzo, it won’t be much longer.

“I’m not going to shy away from it. This could be our last year together.”

Damn, talk about a quote.

If they want, the Cubs can keep this team together

If you noticed, Rizzo still left a sliver of hope in regards to the core sticking around. The only way I can see this being accomplished is if the Rickett’s actually decided to pay up. Otherwise, the club will have to make tough decisions on who they’d want to keep and who they want to let walk. This is a great reminder to enjoy this Cubs team. Yeah, it might be a weird season but it’s still a shot at another ring. And as Rizzo alluded too, this could be the last run we get with this core. So let’s enjoy it and hope this team still has some 2016 magic left in the tank.
