Jaylon Johnson Brought The Gun Show To Bears Training Camp

-

Jaylon Johnson is a confident young man. That isn’t a huge surprise. Football players who play cornerback have to be. It requires a level of borderline arrogance to handle a position that can get burned quite often by wide receivers. Strong self-confidence that they will succeed on the next play is essential. Johnson calls himself “a baller” and is ready to prove it.

It appears not just with words too. Head coach Matt Nagy said he and his staff were quite satisfied with how players made sure to arrive at training camp in shape. Among the headliners who stuck out included James Daniels, Akiem Hicks, and Cordarrelle Patterson. Apparently it’s time to thrust Johnson into that group as well.

The Bears released a series of photographs from Bears practices recently. The rookie 2nd round pick was on one of them and while one couldn’t see his face, they could definitely see his jacked-up arms.

Jaylon Johnson already has the look of an NFL cornerback

Here’s the thing. Coming out of Utah, Johnson was around 190 lbs. A bit on the thinner side for a cornerback. He appeared somewhat lanky. If one were to look at pictures of him during his games in 2019, they’d see his arms were muscled but not nearly to the extent they are now.

It’s plain as day Johnson was working out relentlessly during this extended offseason. He wanted to make sure people understood he’s ready to compete for the starting job opposite Kyle Fuller. The rookie is coming off shoulder surgery from last season. He’ll be competing primarily with Kevin Toliver who spent the previous two years backing up Prince Amukamara.
