Nick Foles Finally Spotted In Illinois Working Out Ahead Of Camp

-

Nick Foles had plans going into this offseason. When the Chicago Bears traded for him back in March, the mission was clear. Join that team and compete with Mitch Trubisky for the starting job. He was so confident he could do it, he actually restructured his contract in order to facilitate the trade out of Jacksonville. He never could’ve imagined real life would get his way as it has.

COVID-19 swept through the country around that same time. Travel became restricted and teams weren’t allowed to report for practices. Minicamps? OTAs? Both canceled. Suddenly Foles found himself stranded in Florida, unable to move his family until closer to training camp. All the while, Trubisky was taking advantage by working out with teammates on a weekly basis.

Combined with the loss of the preseason, Foles’ chances of winning the job keep getting slimmer. That isn’t going to deter him though. The 31-year old quarterback finally made it to Illinois and was spotted at a local Vernon Hills high school going through throwing sessions. From the look of things, he’s in shape and has that typical zip on his throws Bears receivers should see plenty of in Lake Forest.

Nick Foles can’t afford to waste a single snap next month

According to the NFL guidelines, padded practices won’t start for the Bears until August 17th. There will be only 14 of them in total. That doesn’t give Foles much margin for error. Every single snap he takes is going to matter. Each incompletion or interception thrown will be a tough blow to his chances of putting Trubisky on the bench.

Only Matt Nagy will know who has the edge as the regular season draws nearer and he’s not likely to make a decision until the start of September. Can Foles avoid a slow start when camp opens? He better hope so.
