One of the most interesting names that people haven’t talked about going into the NFL draft is Kenny Robinson. That is because his story is rather unique. He actually left college at West Virginia last year to join the upstart XFL with the St. Louis Battlehawks. He started every game until the league was forced to cease operations due to COVID-19. Now due to a strange twist, he’s eligible to enter the draft. The only XFL player to due so and the Chicago Bears are reportedly interested.
According to Jordan Reid of the Draft Network, the Bears met with him at least once via FaceTime in the previous few weeks. It’s hardly a secret the team is searching for safety help. Ha Ha Clinton-Dix is gone, leaving a void at the spot next to Eddie Jackson. Right now Deon Bush looks like the favorite to fill it unless they bring in some competition.
Robinson would make a lot of sense.
Chicago Bears are smart to keep eyes on Robinson
Robinson is a unique football story. He technically already has a season of pro football experience under his best and is only 21-years old. During two years in college, he collected seven interceptions including two for touchdowns. Then in the XFL, he grabbed two more interceptions, a sack, and 21 tackles in just five games. This illustrates his natural playmaking instinct that any team would love to have.

Size and athleticism aren’t issues. The big question for the Bears is can he complement Jackson? When it comes to attacking the line of scrimmage as a blitzer, he has the talent. The big hurdle for him is being able to play the run consistently and tackling well. Two things that weren’t always his strength. He did show some improvement with the Battlehawks but he needs work. While a 2nd round pick feels too rich, he could end up being a quality 3rd or 4th round option if the Bears were to trade back.
