The NBA is doing everything they can to try and keep fans entertained during this sports hiatus. It started with a players-only NBA 2K tournament and next up will be a HORSE competition beginning Sunday night on ESPN. The lineup for this competition is full of current and former NBA & WNBA stars. Zach LaVine has kept himself busy during the off-time, competing in the NBA 2K tournament and now this competition.
In case you are unfamiliar with the game of HORSE you can find the basic rules here. With the current social distancing regulations, this competition will not take place in person. Each player will be filmed at home locations competing against one another. In the first round, LaVine will be matched up against 10x All-Star and former Finals MVP Paul Pierce.
There’s no doubt that Paul Pierce was a great shooter during his career so depending on what tricks Pierce pulls out LaVine could find himself in a tight competition.
Will we see the return of Zach LaVine dunks?
Unfortunately, no, the rules of the contest prohibit dunking which was joked about between Trae Young and LaVine when the participants were announced.
The rules also include that players must call the type of shot they intend to make, whether that be a swish or a bank shot. This should be an enjoyable contest to watch as we will get to see the full bag of tricks that these players possess outside of their play on the court. LaVine reached out on Twitter this week to try and get some shot ideas.
If any Bulls fans have an unstoppable HORSE shot be sure to reach out to LaVine on Twitter prior to the contest on Sunday. The NBA is doing a great job of providing sports content in a time when we can’t have group gatherings. In my biased opinion, LaVine is going to dominate the first round against Pierce and see himself in the semifinals.
Tune in to ESPN on Sunday at 7 pm ET to watch LaVine take on Pierce.
